    3. Does anyone know how the area of Old Florence, where the textile mills and iron mills were located, got the name of "Florence City".. which was the name of the Incorporated place on the 1920 census. The division of the county was shown as Florence Precinct. Is Florence City the same as what we know as Florence today or was it a separate area? Thank you.

    3. Troy, I have some information on some Perryman's in Lauderdale County. Since I have no idea when your aunt-in-law's Mary Elizabeth was born, it is hard to say, but in this family there is one Eliza Perryman who married John Rhodes 2 Oct 1887. Does this sound like the correct time-line for Mary Elizabeth? Modene Volume 00 : Issue 31 #1 [ALLAUDER] Perryman <mccarley@hiwaay.net] > Has anyone got any thing on a Mary Elizabeth Perryman?

    1. [ALLAUDER] Waterloo / Bumpass Creek
    2. Gary Matthews
    3. Hi Listers: I'm looking at a platt(?) map of Township 1, Range 15W, which has Waterloo in it's extreme southeast corner. This map (I'm sot sure of its age) shows a Rt/Hwy 14 which runs north out of Waterloo and parallels Bumpass Creek. Just outside of Waterloo my map shows a "Bumpus Creek Church" on the west side of Rt 14 and another "Bumpus Creek Church" (BCC) a few miles north of the first one situated on the east side of the highway next to the creek. There is also a "Bumpus Creek Cemetery" across the highway from the northern BCC and a "Scott Cemetery" not far north of it. OK. Now the reason for my geography description. 1. Way back in 1838, my g-g-g-gf, Hardy Matthews received a grant of 40 acres in Sec 24 of T1, R15W, which bordered the west side of Rt 14 almost dead center between the two churches. During this same period, Hardy was performing marriages in the area as an "M.G." and a "J.P." He was known to be an "itinerant minister" in the Methodist Episcopal Church (South) so I'm wondering if either of the Bumpus Creek Churches were/are Methodist and, if so, are there any surviving records? 2. The 1830 Census of Lauderdale Co., lists an elderly woman living in Hardy's household but she disappears by the 1840 Census. So I'm wondering if she might have been Hardy's widowed mother and if she was buried in one of the two cemeteries mentioned above. Can anyone tell me how to find out if there were any MATHEWS/MATTHEWS/MATHIS or THOMPSON burials in these two cemeteries between 1830 and 1840. I'm looking for any clues as to who Hardy's parents were. 3. I'd LOVE to hear how Bumpass creek got its name. Regards, Gary

    1. [ALLAUDER] Mountain Tom Clark Family
    2. Does anybody have information on Mountain Tom Clark that is burried on (or should i say in) Tennessee Street. Many long years ago my husbands family had been told that one of their relitives was burried in the middle of the road, for all of Florence to run over him. This was passed down by the SUGGS family. We have never checked this out and assumed who ever it was had the name SUGGS. When last Sunday's paper came out and we saw the article that was talking about Mountin Tom Clark..it all came together. My husband's line is Sarah Maudella Clark b. 1892 married Charile William Suggs. Are there any Lauderdale County Researchers out there that knows anything about Mountain Tom Clark or when this happened? I would really like to find out if this guy is kin to my husbands family.
