    1. Re: [ALLAUDER] 16th Alabama Company C
    2. I have a book on the 16th Alabama. It has alot of names listed in it plus biographies for the families. Anyone interested in a look up, e-mail me at Walleyland@aol.com. There are many old newspaper articles reproduced from When they announced deaths in Battles. There is also a roster of all the infantrymen in the 16th including all Companies. I am not sure if it is a complete list though. Company C. lists 3 pages worth of men. Anyone interested e-mail me at Walleyland@aol.com....Hope this helps. 1. [ALLAUDER] Josiah L. Lindsey, born 1805
    2. Cynthia E. Chandler
    3. I am searching for the parents and siblings of Josiah L. Lindsey born April 5, 1805 NC. His obituary is as follows: Died at his home near Elmo, TX on August 18, 1880, Deacon Josiah Lindsey in the eighty-fifth year of his age. Brother Lindsey was born near Raleigh, NC. When quite young his parents moved to Lauderdale Co. AL where he experienced a hope in Christ in early life, and in August 1823 he joined the Old School Baptists at Mill Creek Church. On the 26th of November following, he was married to Miss Henrietta "Ritty" Harder, who was at that time a member of the same church with him,.........Brother Lindsey moved to Itawamba Co. MS, 1837, he went into the constitution of a church there and was ordained deacon. In the year 1869, he with his entire family of children and grand- children moved to Kaufman Co. TX and settled on the place where he died....." What at that time was considered "near Raleigh NC"? That leaves a very wide berth doesn't it. Has anyone in the research happened on information that might help determine who Josiah's parents and siblings might be. Any thoughts?? As stated in the obit, Josiah lived in Lauderdale Co. AL and Itawamba Co. MS before moving to Kaufman Co. TX. In both AL and MS there were SC Lindsey's living in the general area. This leads one to believe that there is a possible connection. Sorry for the long post. If anyone has ideas, please let me know. Sincerely, Cynthia Chandler East Peoria, IL

    2. In a message dated 3/6/0 10:47:37 PM, ALLAUDER-D-request@rootsweb.com writes: << What happened to the Nathez Trace genealogical Society.? I had paid my dues up until January but haven't received anything from them in a long time. The are about three years behind in the Nathez Trace Traveler. ruby >> Ruby, I heard they are defunct. I sent them a letter about a month ago, requesting a list of Lauderdale pioneers which they had published several years back. I did not get the letter back ( indicating that some one is picking up their mail) but also did not receive any answer. (indicating that they have no staff). It is a shame to see any genealogical society go "down the tube", but like any business, even a "not for profit" society must have decent management to survive. I could suggest an effort to revive the society but that would require an "on site" 'spark plug' . I would think that they might at least have a library and a membership list. The Public Library in Florence has an active genealogy society or did when I was thru there a few years back. Perhaps they might have some suggestions. I wonder if NTGS has anything left. Do you have any ideas ? Just a thought, I have a retired (TVA) cousin, in Florence who might be interested in such work. L&S, Bob Davis Vancouver, WA

    1. DAVIS, NATHAN SC>AL>MS
    2. Greetings, I have for many years been researching my gr gr grandfather NATHAN DAVIS (1786 - ?) who's son was named LEVI FOWLER DAVIS (1819 - 1888) NATHAN DAVIS was first found by this researcher in LAUDERDALE COUNTY ALABAMA. NATHAN DAVIS was in Lauderdale Co. from about 1821 until about 1842, when he moved to DESOTO COUNTY, MS. Family legend has NATHAN DAVIS coming from South Carolina, but I have never been able to locate the place of his birth nor who his parents were. I now believe he came from NEWBERRY CO., SC, I offer the following information in hopes of finding additional information about NATHAN DAVIS. Nathan was first married to EMILY FOWLER.. EMILY FOWLER was the child of MARTHA ODELL (DUCKETT) FOWLER and LEVI FOWLER, b 6 May, 1769, d 17 Apr., 1819 in Newberry Co., SC MARTHA ODELL (DUCKETT) FOWLER came to Lauderdale County Alabama with her two daughters, EMILY, NANCY, her son ELIJAH and her son-in-law NATHAN. EMILY FOWLER DAVIS died about 1819 at the birth or complications from the birth of her son LEVI FOWLER DAVIS. Emily's mother, MARTHA FOWLER and Nathan's 2nd wife EMILY McALUSTER (McALLISTER) raised LEVI FOWLER DAVIS. LEVI FOWLER DAVIS married NANCY GERMAN (JARMAN, GARMAN) in Monroe County Mississippi in 1841. NANCY GERMAN was the daughter of JOSEPH (JOE) GERMAN and VIRGINIA (JENNY) (MCCANDLESS) GERMAN. MARTHA ODELL (DUCKETT) FOWLER has a headstone in the Wesley Chapel Methodist church cemetery in Lauderdale Co. Alabama, which says: MARTHA O. FOWLER, wife of LEVI FOWLER and gives her birthdate as 6 May 1769 and her death date 11 July 1841. There is no headstone for LEVI FOWLER in this cemetery. If anyone can offer additional information, it would be appreciated. Bob Davis 13117A NW 8th Ave. Vancouver, WA. 98685 (360) 574-1624

They had two daughters that married into the YOUNG family. Orleana married Andrew Merriman Young and Fanny married Samuel H. Young(These are my g.g. grandparents). I plan on searching census records next now that I have a time period to go with. Thanks, Amanda Baltz P. S.
