    1. [ALLAUDER] Pvt. William Sherrod
    2. Mike Sherrod
    3. Posted on: Lauderdale Co. Al Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Al/Lauderdale?read=67 Surname: Sherrod ------------------------- I am trying to find out if Pvt. William Sherrod, Republic of Texas Army, was from Lauderdale County or any other place in Alabama. I have a copy of his discharge which I received from the General Land Office, State of Texas, that indicates that he came to Texas and joined the Army in March 1836 and received an Honorable Discharge in Sept. 1836. He later claimed some land in Texas as payment for his service. My problem is that I cannot find out where he came from to join the Army as I am trying to make the connection to my genealogy work for my family. There were many Sherrods in the Lauderdale County, Florence area before, during and after the War of Northern Agression and I am guessing that perhaps he came from there or Tennessee. Tennessee had many volunteers join us in Texas for our fight for independence. He may have come from there as well. I'm just guessing at this point but if he was in Texas in 1836, he must have been a young man which would make his birthdate around 1814-1820? Any help would be appreciated.

    3. Genealogy: Searching records can become a labor of love when you begin finding important bits and pieces of family history. It's almost like putting a jigsaw puzzle together; The more pieces that fit, the easier it becomes to complete the picture. The amount of time you spend on searching records for each ancestor and family member depends upon how accurate you want to be in recording their history. I wonder if we will ever complete the puzzle. Dorothy
