Hi Everyone, I am trying to get the World War I Registration Cards from Lauderdale County transcribed. The last couple of months have found me unable to do anything because of several family things going on, now on top of all that, my husband and I are launching a new business venture, so things are going to be pretty busy for a while. Another thing is, a couple of months ago, there was a big fire in some buildings near the Archives and they were in danger of catching on fire! What a terrible loss that would have been! I have decided that the best way to get these cards transcribed is to ask for some help from some of you who are willing to volunteer to help. What I would do is go to the National Archives, photocopy the cards and then mail some to people who are willing to transcribe them, put them on a Word Doc and send them to Pat Mahan to put on the website. THen, when you have finished, please send the photocopies back to me, or if you have a better suggestion for keeping all the copies together, let me know. I hope that lots of you will volunteer to do this. If many of you will just volunteer to do one batch that would be a tremendous help. There are four boxes of Lauderdale County cards and it has been slow going for me to be able to get down there and then have time to transcribe them. Joyce Cameron has been kind enough to send me some that she had already copied and I will be adding those in order. Please email me at GoochTandN@worldnet.att.net...... No one has to pay for any copies or postage except for the postage when you return them to me. If anyone has a better idea as to how to handle this, let me know....I had thought that if people who actually live in Laud. CO. did some they could take them to the library and leave them there and we could put those in a binder to keep at the library. If sending them back to me is the best way to keep these papers together then that will be a "donation" to the Lauderdale County Website from you....so thank you and let me hear from you. I went down today and photocopied some and if I hear from alot of you tonight, I will go back tomorrow. I can have some on the way to you by tomorrow. Thanks so much! Nancy Lovelace Gooch p.s. I am using Microsoft WORD......TImes New Roman Font, size 10 and you can look at the ones already sent in for the form that I am using.
