Thanks, Amanda Hester Baltz-Walleyland@aol.com Hi Amanda and Lists, I have been searching for info on my gg grandparents for years. William M. TAYLOR b. 1847 TN d. aft 1880. Married bef 1877 Mary E. (Mollie) BRISBY b. Jan 1854 TN d. 12 Sep 1891 Bell County TX. Mary E remarried on 20 Aug 1890 to L. B.(Bugg) Stewart in Rutherford co TN. Mary E.'s parents were William K./H. BRISBY b. 22 Aug 1824 TN d. 13 Aug 1909 m. 18 Aug 1847 Keziah (Kizzie) GRISSOM b. 13 Dec 1823 AL d. 27 Jan 1905 TN. William's parents were John BRISBY (1783-1852)and Rosa F. CLENDENNING (1786-1880) Keziah's parents were William GRISSOM (1799-1892) and Nancy ? (1801-bef 1870) William and Keziah had 4 children William L., John T., Mary E., and Fannie Brisby, all born in TN between 1849-1864. They are listed on the 1850 and 1860 censuses of Maury co TN, in the 6th Civil Dist. Have corresponded with Monte H. Knight of Maury co TN . Mr Knight told us : "Regretfully, I cannot find a lead on the GRISSOM line(that, of KEZIAH BRISBY ( 1823, Ala. -1905,Maury)). Evidently, this line was situated just over the Maury/Giles counties line, having removed north out of Ala., up into the Giles area, post 1823." "The most prominet name, here, from earliset times, is that of GRESHAM(corruption, GRISHAM) - stemming from old Benoni Gresham, Senr." There is, in the 1830 census, a William GRISSAM(sic) household, as follows: 2 males 5-10 (1820/25) 1 male 30-40 (1790/1800) 1 female under 5 (1825/30) **1 female 5-10 (1820/25) 1 femalde 20-30 (1800/10) he is located in the same general area (southeastern Maury Co.) as the BRISBY/TAYORS; that being the old Fountain Creek area, working down toward the Maury/Giles counties line-maybe, a bit more to the west, in the direction of the old 4th Dist. He is near the families of Royla-Fry(Frey)-Freeland-Lowrance-Moore, et al: all, indigenous to the extreme southeastern boundary of Maury co. ** correct age grouping for KEZIAH,b.1823- (but, I'm unable to prove this, at this time-)" The GRISSOMs were in Lauderdale and Limestone counties of Alabama. Does any of the this ring a bell with anyone? Thanks, Doyleen Routh dbrouth@peppersnet.com

BJ That general category could include a lot of surnames--especially if you include Lawrence Co. TN too. SPRINGER, POWELL, BELEW, HARLAN, NEWTON, EZELL, COMER, HARLAN >From Laurens and Greenville SC there's: HOLLAND, HILL, NABORS, Somewhere in SC - ROSS, John MCDONALD, and I'm sure there must be more. Does anyone have any information other than what is available in the Official Records of the Rebellion (OR), Dyer's "Compendium" and "Buggar Saga" about the Battle of Butler's Creek which took place in late October/ early November of 1864? The battle was supposed to be a running cavalry battle (skirmish???) between Gen. Hatch of the Union and Gen. N. B. Forrest of the Condeferacy. I'm trying to locate the general vicinity of the battle and determine whether it was in Lauderdale Co., AL, Wayne Co., TN or possibly even in Lawrence Co. TN. I have a suspicion that it actually took place in the upper reaches of Lauderdale Co., AL and carried over into thatarea of Wayne Co. between TN 277 and the state line. Any good Civil War buffs out there who'd care to comment? (and please respond back to the lists). Edgar

The Nancy Davis that I searching for was the one that married a Phillip Darby b. 1777 and d. 1860. They were one of the first families to settle the Lauderdale Co Area. Phillip Darby mapped a good portion of the area out for settlers. They migrated there from TN. Anyone who may know something about this family I would be greatly appreciated. Mary Reeder Darby who married William "Birdsong" Young was one of their descendants. Thanks, Amanda Hester Baltz--Walleyland@aol.com
Felicia and Lee, Thanks for the info...I'll check out those counties first. Marla
Do you have the county in SC in which your Nancy Davis was born? My ggggrandfather, James Kirkpatrick was born in SC (unknown county). He married Polly Davis in 1831 in Lauderdale Co., AL. Maybe these two families migrated together? Marla, Nancy's father died in Sumter county, South Carolina in 1841. I can only assume that since at least one of her brothers born before her was born in Sumter- she might have been born there. Felicia

Hi list. I was at an old cemetery today west of Florence, AL.on Hwy 20 behind the Florence County Club. I have ancestors in this old cemetery (Factory Hill Cemetery). I saw small flag markers at each headstone in the Cemetery and would like to know if this cemetery is on some ones list to clean up. It is very heavily wooded and over grown. Can you tell me if some group is in process of cleaning it up? In the Cemetery was a large trash can filled with drink cups and gator aid bottles. I would like to contact this group. Thanks Denise PRINCE Wilson
