I'm researching the BRYAN(T) family with some ties to Lauderdale County before 1850. My gggrandfather, James Eldridge BRYAN, b. AL., 1831-2, apparently had three brothers, Reuben B., Thomas C., and Joshua L. M. BRYAN, (the "T" at the end of the name comes and goes). Reuben B. married Emeline D. RENTFROW, in Lauderdale Co. in 1847, Thomas C. married Mary Jane YORK in the same year. The marriage ceremonies for Reuben's and Thomas's marriages were officiated by Samuel EDMONDSON. They migrated to Columbia-Lafayette Co., AR, ca. 1848-50. James Eldridge married Louisa PRICE, in Lafayette Co., AR, in 1852. The brothers, except for Reuben, then migrated to Lamar and Red River Co., TX., in 1857. Joshua L. M. married Laura YORK, sister of Mary Jane, in 1858. There is a possible connection to William B. BRYAN(T), of Limestone Co., who owned property there after 1820. Anyone familiar with these BRYAN/BRYANT's? C. J. Bryan
Judy, According to notes in my files: William Alpheus King [23 Dec 1812, Iredell Co NC - 29 Apr 1888, Williamson Co TX] was a son of Hugh Brevard King [2 Mar 1773, Iredell Co NC - 3 Sep 1843, Burleson Co TX] and Rebecca Gill [26 Apr 1792 - 11 Aug 1857, Burleson Co TX] Elizabeth Harrison [15 Dec 1815, Lancaster Co SC - 9 Jun 1871, Williamson Co TX] is a daughter of Luke Ray Harrison [27 Feb 1790, Wake Co NC - 6 Sep 1873, Lauderdale Co AL] and (1) Martha "Patsy" Harris [1788, Albemarle Co VA - 5 Jul 1848 Lauderdale Co AL]. W. A. King is in the 1840 Census, Lauderdale Co AL, but by 1841/2 the family is in Texas. Possibly going there to join his father. W. A. King was the tax assessor/collector for Burleson Co TX in 1846. He doesn't show up on the census after 1870. I think he has another given name. He had children born in about 1907 so he or his family are still in AL till 1907. Alice Garrett, I notice you have the name Cox in your line. Would you know if or what connection the Cox's would have to the King family? There is a Susan Cox in the H.H. of Guilford Dudley King in 1850 Lauderdale Co., AL. census and I think the 1860 census, also. Also would there be any connection between the Harrison's and the King's? My 3rd great grandmother Catherine King was involved in a few business transactions with Luke Harrison in Lauderdale Co. in the late 1840's and early 1850's. I think I'm right on this. Writing from memory and haven't checked my files on this. Does anyone have a Hester E.Howard in their records? I know nothing about her, except that she married Joseph G. King in 1860 in Lawrence Co., TN. I have a Joseph King who is missing and he was in Lauderdale Co., AL. in 1850. Some of my King's moved back and forth between Lauderdale Co., AL. and Lawrence co., TN., so I was thinking maybe this Joseph G. King might be mine. I've tried through the King line to find out about this, but to no avail, so I am trying the Howard side. Judy K. Sanders
