    1. [ALLAUDER] Turner, Gibbs, Sharp
    2. patty
    3. I am new to the list and would like to exchange information with others working on these surnames - Turner, Gibbs, Sharp - particularly in the Waterloo area. I am interested in the family of John and Martha (Harrell) Turner, found in the 1870 and 1880 census in Waterloo. Children in the household included Samuel, Gilbert Greenwood (my ancestor), Jeremiah, Vernetta, and John Jr. Gilbert Turner later married first America Virginia Ha(y)nes, with whom he moved to Lamar County, Texas and then Missouri Belle (Mabelle) Gibbs, found in the household of Flem Gibbs in 1880. The Gibbs are related to the Chaney family, as well. Henry and Maggie Clark Sharp are the parents of Belton Burley Sharp (1902-1978), called Burley, who married my grandmother around 1929 in Dunklin County, MO. He later married Margie Mondy of Pocahantas, AR. Gilbert Turner, many of the Gibbs family and Maggie Clark Sharp, later moved to Tyronza and Earle in Crittenden County, AR and Dunklin Co, MO. I have inherited a number of photographs of the Gibbs and Turners of Waterloo. I look forward to hearing from others working on these lines. Thank you, Patty Henson Sullivan

    1. [ALLAUDER] CAPT. DAVID WILLIAM HOWELL
    2. Stephen Cooper
    3. This past week, Mr. William McDonald, the city historian for Florence, Alabama had a very nice article in our local newspaper, THE TIMES DAILY about my wifes great grandfather, Captain DAVID WILLIAM HOWELL, C.S.A. soldier and riverboat captain. My wife descends through Captain Howell's daughter Myrtle Howell, through her son Thomas Glenn Wesson. Mr. Wesson was the father of my wife Janice Kay (Peggy) Wesson Cooper. I have been unable to find anyone else that researches the line of Captain Howell. Does anyone have any information on any of the families listed below, that connect to Captain Howell ? There were at least one brother and one sister or they may be a half brother and sister. **************************************************************************** ************************************************** Brother: Captain Lee Howell married Emma Ottoway/ Ataway of Tuscumbia, Alabama. Both died and are buried in Evansville, Indiana. He was a Confederate Soldier, riverboat captain, and later worked for the L & N Railroad. Children: Mamie & Bessie died very young and were buried at the Florence City Cemetery. Later bodies were moved to Evansville, Indiana. Also had a son Lee Howell, Jr. **************************************************************************** ************************************************** Sister: Caroline (Callie) Howell married (1) Carroll Sharp in Lauderdale County, Alabama. (2) Joseph Wesson in Lauderdale County, Alabama She is buried at Wright Cemetery, near Waterloo, Alabama. **************************************************************************** ************************************************* Information on Captain DAVID WILLIAM (WILSON) HOWELL: David W. Howell (1829-1928) was born at Burcham Mills, Lauderdale County, Alabama . He married (1) Sarah Margaret Williams (1836-1877) in Lauderdale County, Alabama in 1851. The marriage record list him as David Wilson Howell. Most records list him as David William Howell. There was a son, William Howell ( about 1855- 1912). Later records sometimes list William as W.T. and also as T.E.B. Howell. Captain T.E.B. Howell was shot and killed while on his riverboat on the Green River near Evansville, Indiana in 1912. He is buried at Bowling Green, Kentucky. T.E.B. was married to a Bessie Powers. She had two brothers, Dr. A.H. Powers and Mr. B.F. Powers. T.E.B. is believed to have had a second wife. There also was an adopted daughter, Alice Beatrice Howell (1868-1908). She married James Boyd Thomas. They are buried at the Florence City Cemetery. Records in Hardin County, Tennessee show that Sarah M. Howell (1836-1877) is buried at the Bethel Cemetery near Savannah, Tennessee. Records also show that D.W. (David William) Howell married a Sarah Columbia (Palmer) Graham, widow of James A. Graham. Later moving back to Florence, Lauderdale County, Alabama; Captain Howell and wife Sarah had one child, a daughter, Myrtle Howell (1882-1929). Myrtle married Turner Eugene Wesson(1879-1938) in 1902. Their only son was Thomas Glenn Wesson (1903-1987). He married (1) Gertie Phillips and after her untimely death married (2) Virgie Horton. Glenn and wife Virgie were the parents of my wife, Peggy Wesson Cooper. **************************************************************************** ************************************************* Please E-Mail me at the address below if you have any information that connects to any of these Lauderdale County, Alabama , Hardin County, Tennessee or Evansville, Indiana families: HOWELL, WESSON, OTTOWAY/ ATAWAY, POWERS, SHARP, PALMER, GRAHAM, WILLIAMS, THOMAS, PHILLIPS: Thank you. 1. [ALLAUDER] PRINCE, PORTER, ABERNATHY, SMITH
    2. Nancy Carter
    3. Seeking information on these surnames associated with Lauderdale County Alabama 1840-1880's. Groups of the family migrated by covered wagon train departing from Florence AL, to Rains County TX. These people were my ancestors and I would like to know more about them. Specific names mentioned in the History of Rains County include: P.C. PORTER & wife MARGARET OLIVE WHITE PORTER (my g-grandparents) with their little children. JAMES H. PORTER & wife MAGGIE L. PORTER FRANK PRINCE, half brother of James H. Porter MRS. CLARENCE ABERNATHY & MRS. JESS SMITH "sisters of Frank Prince and cousins of P.C. Porter". The story of the wagon train adventures was passed down through the years. My grandmother was one of the little children in the wagon train. During the day the children walked and played along side of the wagons, darting from one wagon to another. At night the wagons made camp and the families prepared the evening meal on a camp fire. It was such a night that my grandmother was discovered missing, in Indian country. A search party found her, a few miles back on the trail, alone and scared, but safe. As the train progressed on toward Texas, while passing through Arkansas, bushwhackers ambushed the families, and stole their stock, guns, food, and extra wagons. A possee was rounded up to chase the bushwackers. Tales of gunfire in the night were handed down through the family. After the raid, having only enough wagons for part of the family to continue on the trip, my great-grandparents remained in Arkansas another 2 years until enough money could be made to join their kin in Texas. Their arrival was remembered in Paris Texas by another family member. The family had almost starved to death before they reached their kin, had been living on dried and parched cattle corn. When my g-grandmother stepped out of the wagon, she promptly found a penny on the ground. She vowed never to be broke again and the penny remains somewhere in our family to this day. If you can connect to these surnames, please contact me. I have a lot of information to share on the PORTER family. Thank you, Nancy Carter Van Zandt County TX
