I am looking for any information on a A.J. Futrell(Andrew Jackson) and Mary Ann Scitzs. According to infor I have, A.J. Futrell was b. in Franklin Co.,Ala. Ended up in Kemper Co., MS. and had his family. Then ended up back in Lauderdale Co., Ala. where two of his daughters were md. to my Hitchcock's. One of the Hitchcock's being my grandfather. Yr. of marriages were 1877 and 1879. I do not know if Mary Ann Scitzs, A.J.'s wife was with the family when they went back to Lauderdale. I believe A.J. and family went back to Lauderdale around 1864 after A. J. was mustered out of the CSA. Any infor at all of these people would be greatly appreciated. Trecia(Hitchcock)Griffin

Searching for siblings of Elizabeth GIST (c1780-1840) of Lawrence Co., TN. Elizabeth married Elijah WALKER in 1819 in Lawrence Co. and brought two boys to the union. The elder son, Joseph (1812-1863) married Sarah P. (Unknown) in 1834 in Wayne Co.,TN. The younger son John C. Gist (b. 1818) owned land on Shoal Creek near Iron City and was murdered by the "Buggers" 9 Apr 1865. (See Bugger Saga by Pruitt, Chapter One, "Night of Terror"). All the children of Joe and John Gist later migrated to Arkansas. Earlier Joseph Gist and his brother Joshua Gist came to Lawrence Co. around 1818. On the 1820 Lawrence Census Joshua Gist was enumerated next door to Elijah Walker and Elizabeth Gist-Walker. The Walker household was, in turn next to the home of Ms. Margaret Gist. In 1820 Margaret Gist married Julius BREWER. Also in 1820 a Nancy Gist married Jesse KIMBRELL. I believe Elizabeth, Joseph, Joshua, Margaret and Nancy were siblings. Before 1826 Joseph and Joshua Gist moved to Lauderdale Co., AL. Two sons of Joseph were Levi and James Gist who were shot and killed on 14 Jan 1864. (See Pruitt, Chap. 8, "Hog Killing Time at Levi Gist's"). Author Pruitt says Joseph's sons Levi and James were cousins to Elizabeth's son John C. I would like to correspond directly with any researcher/descendant of Gist, Walker, Kimbrell, Brewer and Jones (Elizabeth and Elijah Walker had a daughter who married a JONES) who can shed any light on or prove these relationships. Thanks. Bob Watson Warrenton, MO

She did not move with him to AR. in 1852. Would appreciate any help. Mary

These families were in Lawrence County Tennesse with several spill overs into what would become Lauderdale County AL. My connection to Lauderdale County, Al is with my gg grandfather James Alton Lovell, born abt. 1821 in Tennessee but is found on the 1850 and 1866 Lauderdale County Census. In 1860, he is found on the Lawrence County, Tennessee Census. I believed he lived close to the Alabama - Tennessee line as some of his children are born in Alabama and some in Tennessee. He married Elizabeth Newman, July 28, 1839. On the 1850 Lauderdale Census he is living adjacent to Lucy Lovell, age 60, who may be his mother and Paton Lovell, age 39, who may be a brother. There is also a Constant Lovell, age 22, and a Ruben Lovell, age 20 living with Lucy. The children of James Alton Lovell are: William Russell, born 28 Feb. 1842, married Sarah Cottrell 22 Feb. 1868 Clarissa J., born abt. 1845 George W., born abt. 1847 Reuben A., born abt. 1849 Lucy E., born abt 1853 James F., born abt. 1855 Mary, born abt 1859 Joseph,. born abt. 1863 I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has a connection to this family. It would appear that Edwin DENTON (abt 1770-aft 1840) and his wife Catherine BLASINGIM (abt 1780-aft 1840) moved, by stages, from Giles Co TN to Lawrence Co TN to Lauderdale Co AL to Franklin Co AL--the time period from roughly 1815 to 1835. I would appreciate hearing not only from anyone with these surnames but from others regardless of surname who took this route. Thanks, John Ottinger
Good Morning All, After sending the notice about the decoration day for Second Creek Cemetery in Lawrence Co TN, I thought it would be a good idea if those of you on the list are aware of any other cemetery's decoration day, that you would post them to the list. Right now, the only other one that I'm aware of is that of Wesley Chapel, on 3 June 2001. Pat

Please contact Paula Scales if you have questions - pscales52@yahoo.com DECORATION DAY AT SECOND CREEK CEMETERY First Sunday in May is Decoration Day at Second Creek Cemetery. This year it falls on Saturday May 5th and Sunday May 6th. The cemetery is located just over the Alabama State line in Lawrence County, Tennessee. If you have been planning a trip to the area, this would be an excellent time to visit. There will be several families at the cemetery on Saturday, decorating their ancestor's graves and there are usually several people there that have researched families in the area. There are also several cemeteries in the vicinity, Lexington, Porter Town, Grassy, etc. My lines of research include Shelton, Howard, Todd, Springer, Williams, and Hammond. There are several members of these families buried at Second Creek. If you need further information, or directions to the cemetery, please E-mail me at pscales52@yahoo.com.
