Honoring Ellis TYCER, Revolutionary War Veteran (NC Militia), and his family, the reunions first two days will be held in Portland, Oregon, Oct. 2 & 3. A picnic has been planned at the Brownsville Pioneer Park, Brownsville, Oregon on Saturday, Oct 4. Ellis TYCER was born in Northumberland Co., VA in 1756. I am looking for info on Henry Wade Williams born in TN (possibly Wayne Co.) or Florence, Lauderdale Co., AL on February 22, 1855. Died August 29, 1940 in Little River Co., AR close to Ashdowne, AR. He married Caroline Lanier 1880 in Tickridge, AL. Where is Tickridge? She was wife #2 of 3 he had. She was born between 1854 and 1855 Lexington, Lauderdale Co., AL. Died in 1890 supposedly in Columbus, AR. I cannot find her burial place. Her parents were Robert Turner Lanier born June 25, 1816 in Giles Co., TN. Died July 25, 1892 in Lexington, AL. He married Miriam Belew August 7, 1849 in Lauderdale Co., AL. She was born February 4, 1829 in AL. Died December 21, 1905 in Lexington, Lauderdale Co., AL. Buried I think in the Barnett Cemetery. They had 11 children. I have more info on these if anyone is interested. Is there anyone researching these lines? I have Henry Wade Williams's parents being Nathaniel D. C. Williams born 1827 in AL and Mahulda Earnest born 1826 in AL. I am willing to share any info I have. (Martha) Jane Foley Cornelius, NC formerly of Colorado Springs, CO and DeQueen, AR

Good Morning Everyone! Many of you have connections in Lawrence Co TN - one of our neighboring counties - and they will be having a Family History Fair later this month. Hope to see you there! Pat ******************************************************************* The Lawrence County Genealogical Society will host a Family History Fair Saturday, June 28, 2003, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Lawrence County High School located on Springer Rd. in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. A small admission fee of $1 will be charged. If you are interested in genealogy, this is a great opportunity to meet new people who are researching on your same family lines. (Please note the change from the 3rd Sat. to the 4th Sat. in June.) We have had tremendous response to our fair in past years, and hope that everyone will continue to make it a great success. Each year we have had over one hundred people in attendance, with researchers from twelve or more states. Information on about eighty-five Lawrence County families has been displayed on the various tables reserved by researchers. There were also vendors with many books for sell on Lawrence County, Giles County, and other surrounding counties. All who have attended our previous fairs had a wonderful time swapping information. A copy machine will be available for copies of any information you need copied. So bring, family charts, notebooks, photographs, family stories, computers, etc. and join in the fun. If you are bringing information to share with others or books for sell, tables are available for free, but we do ask that you please make a reservation in order for us to be able to determine how many tables need to be set up. Including the surnames of all the families you will have information on or the books you have for sell, will enable us to make a fair directory in advance. The society will also have a 2004 calendar containing sketches of different buildings across the county - hotel, railroad depot, houses, school, courthouse [1905], cotton factory, etc. for sale at the fair this year. The exact price has not be determined yet, but will probably be around $5. We hope to have door prizes as in the past also. You can use the registration form on our web page at http://web.infoave.net/~lcarchives/lcgenso.htm; or you can email the society directly at lcarchives@lorettotel.net and tell them you need a table. Also, you can contact the archives for a form or information on lodging, restaurants, maps, directions, etc. Lawrence County Archives, 218 N. Military Ave., Suite B-1, Lawrenceburg, TN 38464; telephone: 931-766-1576.

DEAR ANCESTOR Your tombstone stands amoung the rest; neglected and alone The name and date are chiseled out on polished , marbled stone It reaches out to all who care it is too late to mourn You did not know that I exist You died and I was born. Yet each of us are cells of you in flesh, in blood, in bone Our blood contracts and beats a pulse Entirely not our own Dear Ancestor, the place you filled one hundred years ago Spreads out amoung the ones you left who would have loved you so. I wonder if you lived and loved, I wonder if you knew That someday I would find this spot, and come to visit you. Author Unknown.
Today I received the following from a fellow lister and I thought it important to pass along to others who might relate to it. The writer is unknown. It was so touching and meaningful to me that I just had to share it with my fellow listers and genealogy friends. I didn't say so, but was hoping that it would be passed along and shared with all like-minded researchers. I know it made me feel much less guilty about all the time and money I spend on my family history search. God bless the writer of this! We Are the Chosen My feelings are in each family we are called to find the ancestors. To put flesh on their bones and make them live again, To tell the family story and to feel that somehow they know and approve. To me, doing genealogy is not a cold gathering of facts but, instead, Breathing life into all who have gone before. We are the story tellers of the tribe. We have been called as it were by our genes. Those who have gone before cry out to us: Tell our story. So, we do. In finding them, we somehow find ourselves. How many graves have I stood before now and cried? I have lost count. How many times have I told the ancestors you have a wonderful family, you would be proud of us? How many times have I walked up to a grave and felt somehow there was love there for me? I cannot say. It goes beyond just documenting facts. It goes to who am I and why do I do the things I do? It goes to seeing a cemetery about to be lost forever to weeds and indifference And saying I can't let this happen. The bones here are bones of my bone and flesh of my flesh. It goes to doing something about it. It goes to pride in what our ancestors were able to accomplish. How they contributed to what we are today. It goes to respecting their hardships and losses, their never giving in or giving up, Their resoluteness to go on and build a life for their family. It goes to deep pride that they fought to make and keep us a Nation. It goes to a deep and immense understanding that they were doing it for us. That we might be born who we are. That we might remember them. So we do. With love and caring and scribing each fact of their existence, Because we are them and they are us. So, as a scribe called, I tell the story of my family. It is up to that one called in the next generation, To answer the call and take their place in the long line of family storytellers. That is why I do my family genealogy, And that is what calls those young and old to step up And put flesh on the bones. [Author Unknown]
Hello, I am researching my husbands family and my Allens are a brick wall. This is what I am sure of. My mother in laws father was Fred Lee Allen. He married Annie Mae South. Fred's mother and father were Nesbit N. Allen and Margaret Ann Looney. They were married Feb. 12, 1893 in Colbert County Alabama. Nesbit was born June 28, 1873 and died Dec. 30, 1919 or 1918. Margaret was born Oct. 17, 1875 died Feb. 12, 1963. They are buried in KP Cemetary in Russellville, Al. After this I have no idea. One family member thought Nesbit's father was also a Nesbit. But I have found no record of it. We are speculating that His father may have been Joseph H. Allen and mother was Candisa Allen but have found no proof. Joseph's father may have been Niriam A. Allen and mother Elizabeth. Niriam's father may be L. Allen. But as I said before there is no proof. I am still searching. As for Margaret I have found tons on her line of Looneys. If any of this sounds familiar please contact me. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Calendar - Free online calendar with sync to Outlook(TM). http://calendar.yahoo.com

Giles' wife is buried with their daugther in KP cemetary in Franklin County. James and Lily mae have been married in Lawrence County in or around 1898. Giles and Annie Lee were married in Franklin County Alabama. Giles had sisters and brothers: Clara, Romie, Era, and William T. I don't recall seeing information posted about this on any mail list so thought I would pass on one of the most helpful tools available for those living in Texas. The TexShare member libraries offer library members access to the TexShare Databases, which includes HeritageQuest Online in the History and Genealogy section. You must obtain a login and password from your library -- if it is a participating library and if all of the criteria listed at #3 on the site below is met: http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/texshare/pl/onlinedatabasefaq.html#faqspub The census records of HeritageQuest Online are indexed -- not all years are online but several are and very easy to use and clear to read. I think the Fort Smith, Sebastian County, AR, public library also offers HeritageQuest Online, according to what is listed on their web site for which you need a login and password. People in other states should check with their local libraries to see if they have a similar program. Peggy Horton

Good Morning Everyone! I hope that everyone is finally 'dry' and enjoying sunshine this morning, as we are here in North AL. I've been working on the web site, and there are LOTS of new things - several pictures, a new section on churches, more tax sales, and a new marriage book [book c, 1879-1882]. So grab a cup of coffee and check it out. Pat Pat M Mahan CC Lauderdale Co AL http://www.rootsweb.com/~allauder/
