COBURN, POLK, WEISNER---Looking for information on decendents of Francis COBURN and Dicey POLK both born in Noth Carolina , married about 1818 and moved to Tennesee or Alabama at that time. Francis remaried in Lauderdale Alabama 7 Aug 1825 to Elizabeth WIESNER. I find a Francis COBURN on the 1830 Censu Index for Lauderdale Co. AL and the 1840 Census Index for Hardeman Co., TN. He shows three more times; on the 1850, 1860, and 1870 Census for Fayette County, TN. He (age 57) now is listed ( 1850 Census) with Elizabeth 44; Henery 17; Hedly 15; Nancy J. 9; Francinia 9/12. I believe this Francis Coburn and the one maried to Dicey POLK to be the same. I believe he had at least one and possibly three children with Dicey Polk. before the marriage to Elaizabeth WIESNER Dicey POLK either died, or they divorced prior to this marriage. I need to find proof of the children of this marriage
Carolyn Pruitt Hawkins has given to the Northeast Alabama Genealogical that is housed in The Nichols Memorial Library in Gadsden, her marriage book for Etowah County. It is the marriage records prior to 1900. There is over 6000 marriage records in it. The book is indexed by groom and by the bride. A very good research tool for this area. They are for sale at $25.00 and this includes mailing cost. If you would like one contact me and I will get you the address as to where you can order it from and also get your name on the list as at this time we have only 36 to sell. Thanks Gail, secretary Northeast Alabama Genealogical Society "If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it."
Location of the Bailey Chapel Cemetery: From US Highway 72, east of Killen, AL., turn north on State Road 71. and drive 1 and one half mile. The cemetery is at the intersection of State Rd 71 and Gooch Road. This cemetery was copied in 1996 by Friends of the Rogersville public Library. A book of all cemeteries that could be located in East Lauderdale Co. Al., was copied and published in 1996. The book is hard bound and copies are still available at the Rogersville Public Library or can be mailed. Does anyone know which Whitehead family contained two daughters that married Jacob R. Wilson? The second girl was listed as Mary A. Whitehead when she married Jacob R. Wilson in April 1859 in Lexington, Lauderdale Co., AL. By 1880 she is using the name Nancy A. Wilson, or N. A. Wilson. Her sister was Jacob R. Wilson's first wife. She had a daughter with Jacob, named Mary Elizabeth Wilson, in 1856 near Florence, Lauderdale Co., AL. This wife died between 1856 and 1859 and might had been named Mae. There is a Mae Wilson buried next to Drewsiller Barnett Wilson, mother of Jacob R. Wilson, in the Barnett Cemetery near Lexington. Thanks for any help. Arlene Quinn (mrsq14@aol.com).
I am attempting to sort out the Whitehead families who were in Lauderdale. On the 1830 census there were: Archibald age 50-60 Alex H. age 30-40 William age 50-60 Tobias age 20-30 James age 30-40 Burrell age 20-30 In 1840 in Lauderdale there were: Tobias age 30-40 James age 40-50 W. C. age 30-40 (William C.?) Oswald age 20-30 W. J. age 20-30 A. H. age 30-40 (Alexander H.?) J. age 30-40 L. age 50-60 (this might be Lazarus who was on the tax list 1857-59) Some of these Whiteheads went to Mississippi. In 1840 Noxubee County Burrell age 40-50 (Is this the Burrell of Lauderdale?) J. age 20-30 Winston County 1840 Abel age 30-40 1850 Monroe Co. William C. age 44 Oswald age 29 1850 Winston Co. Joshua (Is this the son of Archibald?) C. (Carroll son of William) I will appreciate any and all help in "putting" these folks with their families. Sandy
Mary: In tracing my family I have come across two contact points with your Minton Family. 1. William Alfred Minto married Elizabeth McPeters on July 12, 1832 in Lauderdale County. He was born 1708 and she was born 1816. She died soon after the birth of Robert, born 1833. Other children were born in Texas, Samuel, born 1841, Marcia, born 1841 and Virginia born 1847. I dont know the connection with the Shelburns but in another of my lines a Samuel married Nancy E. Marrs abt Feb 26, 11929 and he died August 1838 in Lauderdale County. She later married Phillip W. Anderson after Samuel died. Her father was John Marrs. His middle name may have been Albert and his wife might have been Nancy J. Stone. This information given to me but I have been unable to proove it. Bill

I found this reference: http://www.rootsweb.com/~allauder/marbk3-bridesa-j.htm which said: LAUDERDALE COUNTY, ALABAMA MARRIAGES MARRIAGE BOOK 3, 1833 - 1838 AS COPIED BY THE WPA Crowder, Mary Ann Fullwood, Daniel B. 24 Sep 1837 Sneed, Geo. W. JP JP = justice of the peace I suspect these may be the parents of William Fullwood, born in Florence AL about 1839. Can anyone help me with any of this family? TIA
