For many years now, I've had in my possession four quadrangle maps of the Shoals area which date from 1916 through 1926. These maps are the regular 1/62500 scale quad maps and the quads are the same as those today. I've decided to part with them and have listed the maps on eBay. I wanted to let you all know in case some of you might be interested. The maps are particularly interesting for the historian and genealogist alike since they show the Tennessee River as it was BEFORE the dams were built. If you are interested in these maps, the listings are as follows Tuscumbia Quad http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3708637519 Muscle Shoals Quad http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3708659582 Rogersville Quad http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3708660200 Gravelly Springs Quad http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3708660513 I regret that the photographs I made of the maps did not come out. I also have several books listed on eBay that might be of interest to Lauderdale County, AL researchers. Please go to one of the above links and then click on "View seller's other items" for the listings of the books, particularly 1. "Cole Connections" by J. Frank Tate and Betty Willerton 2. "The Fields Family History" by Yvonne Fields Porter 3. "6173 Descendants of Ambrose Holt 1773-1866" by Thomas and Emanola Holt. 4. "Sweetwater, The Story of East Florence 1818-1940" by William L. This came to me from another mailing list I am on and I thought it was a terrific thing. I am sure you are all like me and have spent hundreds of hours gathering information, it would be a shame to see it lost in the next generation. Hope it does some good. Jane Foley Genealogical Codicil to My Last Will and Testament To my spouse, children, guardian, administrator and/or executor: Upon my demise it is requested that you DO NOT dispose of any or all of my genealogical records, both those prepared personally by me and those records prepared by others which may be in my possession, including but not limited to books, files, notebooks or computer programs for a period of two years. During this time period, please attempt to identify one or more persons who would be willing to take custody of the said materials and the responsibility of maintaining and continuing the family histories. [If you know whom within your family or friends are likely candidates to accept these materials, please add the following at this point: "I suggest that the persons contacted regarding the assumption of the custody of these items include but not be limited to" and then list the names of those individuals at this point, with their addresses and telephone numbers if known] In the event you do no find anyone to accept these materials, please contact the various genealogical organizations that I have been a member of and determine if they will accept some parts or all of my genealogical materials. [List of organizations, addresses and phone numbers at bottom; include local chapters, with their addresses, phone numbers and contact persons if available as well as state/national contact information and addresses] Please remember that my genealogical endeavors consumed a great deal of time, travel, and money. Therefore it is my desire that the products of these endeavors be allowed to continue in a manner that will make them available to others in the future. Good Evening All, If you haven't been on the site in the last couple of days, there are more items up. Lee Freeman has been busy with the obituaries, salve sales, hirings, abolitionists, etc., for the African American section. Sandra Tidwell sent pictures for Wesley Chapel - section 4 David Montgomery contributed Austin Cemetery [near Threet's Crossroads, west end of the county.] THANKS, Lee, Sandra, and David! We all really appreciate it! The site has been re-indexed, and all of these items can be reached from http://www.rootsweb.com/~allauder/newitems.htm By the way, if, in your browsing the Lauderdale site, you run across a link that doesn't work, please let me know. I try to keep a check on this, but sometime they just seem to 'pop' up like spring grass. Pat
I have come across an old photo of my grandfather and a young lady. On the back of the picture is written "Joe Cooper & cousin Beulah Cooper". Does anyone have a "Beulah Cooper" in their information ? Both appear to be in their mid-teens. Joe was born in 1884. I have not been able to find a Beulah Cooper in local census records. Joe M. Cooper was born in Wayne County, Tennessee or Lauderdale County, Alabama, very near the state line around Cypress Inn, Tennessee. He married and later lived in Cloverdale/Rawhide, Lauderdale County, Alabama. Thanks, SteveCooper Cloverdale, Alabama STEVECOOPER75@COMCAST.NET
Good Morning All, As most of us know, February is Black History Month, and in observance of this, I have just finished up-loading a new section on the web site, called "African American." Included in this section are Emancipation Papers and local obituaries from several newspapers, as well as those items that are already on the web site. I did not 'move' anything that is already up, but I did link to it from the African American page. You can check it out at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~allauder/newitems.htm The 'Emanciation Papers' is a page in progress. Right now, about half of these records are up. The Obits from Lee Freeman are also a 'work in progress' and more will be added. THANKS, Lee!!! If any of you have African American records you would like to share with the rest of us, please e-mail me. Thanks, and ENJOY!!! Pat

To the List, I am interested in getting a reading of the 1880 Lauderdale Co. Ala. Census record. What they have online, I cannot read. Is there anyone at all that might have access to these records and do a reading for me. I would certainly appreciate it. I am looking for a Andrew (J.) Futrell. I believe he must have been there during this time as two of his daughters md. in Lauderdale, Ala. in 1877. He then ended up in Hardin Co. TN. in 1881 and remarried a Martha Singley from Lauderdale, Ala. His first wife died in 1877 and is buried we believe in Hardin Co. TN. In putting in his name for seeking where he is in 1880(on Anc. com) it comes up there is a Andrew Futrell, age 56 in Lauderdale Co. Ala. But I can't get the Census record to come up. Thanks for the help. Trecia(Hitchcock)Griffin

Good Morning All, I want to add to the biography section of the web site, and I need your help. It's fairly easy to find information on the famous and the infamous Lauderdale Countians. But, for those that plowed a straight row, minded their own business [and expected others to do the same] this is not the case. I am not going to make rules about how you do it, except to say that if what you are presenting is family lore, instead of documented research, please say so. If your work is documented, please give your sources. [i.e. 1860 Census, Lauderdale Co AL] If you have pictures to go with your families, that's even better. You are not limited in space or length, but it's better if you write about only one family at a time. No, you are not limited to a number where families are concerned. If you have 25 families you want to write about, please do so! If they all connect, that's great, too. If you want to send it through the list, that's fine, but you'll have to tell me whether or not I may put it on the web site as well. Last, but definitely not least - remember to SIGN YOUR WORK, and include the e-mail address where you want people to be able to contact you. Please, do not include a residential address or phone number. If you have questions, let me know. Thanks, Pat

I need a little help with something... I hope someone has some answers. In the Lauderdale Co. Al Court House marriages there is listed a marriage for Causburn Clemons to Racheal Besho on Feb 1833... now many of you know I am researching the Clemmons... and we have never found anyone by the name of Causburn.... so I dug a little deeper and found this in Lauderdale co. Claborn Besha Estate Sale Dec 12 1840 in Lauderdale Co. AL only name mentioned was "Erwn Belsh" Now .. could it be that Causburn Clemons that married Racheal Besho... was really Claborn Besho.. and married Racheal Clemons... It wouldnt be the first one I have saw that was reversed. Or is the Marriage record correct and the probate wrong..... How about it researchers.... do you have any Bishop families in Lauderdale in 1833 that is missing a son...... or can anyone shine some light on these families.... I hope to find out that someone is missing a Clairborn Bishop.. or a Erwin Bishop.... Does anyone have a census with a Claborn Bishop, Racheal Bishop or Erwin Bishop on it? Curtis Clemmons was the father of most of the Clemmons children that married in Lauderdale Al ....However we cant find him on the 1830 census anywhere... but we know that he was in Lauderdale by 1832.. and if this is a Racheal Clemmons ... she could likely be a daughter of Curtis Clemmons.... I am looking for information regarding date of death and location of burial of W. A. Long (born in 1865-70) who resided in Waterloo, Lauderdale Co. I know he was alive in 1892 but his wife, Amanda, is listed as a widow in the 1900 census where she resides with her children in the home of her father in law, John S. Long in Riverton. I do not know the actual name, just the initials, W. A. However, his son is named William, so that is a possibility. Can anyone help? Thanks so much. Dianne Denhem
