Hi Kathy; Was your William Henry Parker related to the Parker's of Lauderdale Co? I am researching these Parkers as my great Aunt was Ida May Parker, daughter of James Parker, son of Samuel Parker, son of Artemus/Augustus Parker. There is a William H. Parker in this line, but he was born in 1795 in SC according to the information that I have. It is possible that it isn't correct, but as of now, that is what I have on him. One of my great aunt Ida Parker's ancestors, Charlotte Parker, married a Horace J. Burns, born Sept. 1855 in AL, Sept. 25, 1878 in Lauderdale CO. according to Ancestry.com. They had 8 children. on the 1900 census, they were living in Spains in Lauderdale Co. I have been trying to find more information on him. There are some Burns's listed on the 1866 Tax List for Lauderdale Co., in the Gravelly Springs Township. I am sending you a web site, this is a very good place to research in Lauderdale Co., AL, you may already have it. http://www.rootsweb.com/%7eallauder/index.htm It has a lot of good information. Let me know if anything rings a bell with you. Thanks Charlotte McClain Christensen

Hi Charlotte, Since you are researching the PARKERS & BURNS families, I thought I would join the discussion. I am also forwarding this message to a known descendant of Horace J. BURNS who is probably on this list, but just in case, I am sending this on to Horace's granddaughter Glenda. I descended from Artemus's brother Alphens Parker, and like you, I have not been able to document the family back beyond Artemus and Alphens. Would appreciate hearing from you or any others that could help us with this PARKER brick wall. My grandmother was Alma PARKER, the daughter of Thomas Wesley PARKER, who was the son of William Owen PARKER, who was the son of Jasper Newton PARKER, who was the son of Alphens PARKER. Any other cousins out there? Dave
The 1850 census of Lauderdale shows: Isreal, Polly age 30 born Ala Lewis age 10 born Ala George age 5 born Ala. In 1860 George Ezell is living in Hardin Co., Tn. with the family of Daniel Hitchcock. Older families members said that George Ezell had an "uncle" named Dan Hitchcock. Who was Polly "Isreal"? Was she connected to the Hitchcock family? Sandy
Barb, Posted online at rootsweb.worldconnect.com and (since Ancestry, Inc. and its parent company MyFamily.com bought out rootsweb) on Ancestry's site is my dbase which includes information on both Francis and George. (see below) Elijah was one of 8 Cockburn children born to Francis Coburn/Cockburn and Lydia HEADLEY, I descend from the eldest child, Lydia who married Patriot James Ross in Anson Co., NC. Nearest I can tell, Francis was born in Tyrell Co., NC and died in Anson Co., NC. I have some on the descendants of two or three of their children, my ancestor and two others. I saw records on Elijah Cockburn in Lauderdale Co., AL, but never pursued him. I guess I was waiting for you! My link into Lauderdale is the Springer family. George Cockburn is as far back as I have as well, he being the 'brickwall' ancestor. George was b. ca. 1710 and died in 1779 in Martin Co., NC. Martin Co., is a burned county as I recall. Feel free to see what I have on the family by visiting this link: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=dtjohnston&id=I2676 Make sure if this link appears as two lines in your browser window that you paste all of it on one line in the URL window Happy to share. Hi, I am new to this list and just starting to work on my husband's families from Alabama and Tennessee.I have 6 generation's of information on the families from Charles Wesley Truitt born 1852.I do not know who his parents are though. I have all the information that I have on a webpage.I do not have the date's for the people believed to be a live, but I do have a lot of those date's if you find families that you are working on.Maybe it can help someone on the list. http://community-2.webtv.net/lorisave/FirstTruitt/ Lori Deible Chaffin
I have run into a dead end with the following persons: William Henry PARKER, b. 1840 in GA, d. in Hardin Co. TN in 1915. I believe that he was in Lauderdale Co. around 1893 because in that year he married Nancy Matilda TURNER BURNS in said Lauderdale Co. Nancy Matilda TURNER BURNS was the widow of Thomas Haze BURNS, b. 1855 in AL (maybe Dekalb), d. in Hardin Co. 1888. Nancy M. TURNER was the daughter of Berry TURNER and Elizabeth MORRIS (we think). She was born in 1855 in AL, likely Dekalb but could have been in GA. d. 1945 in Hardin Co. but that is all I have on her. Nancy had 2 known sibs, Newberry and Molly. Anniston, AL is where Newberry lived. Molly is a mystery. The reason I am so sure Lauderdale is important is that all of Nancy's children by Thomas Haze BURNS, lived in an around there. Ella BURNS, Mae BURNS, Anna BURNS, Laura BURNS, Thomas BURNS, Fannie Etta BURNS, Walter BURNS, Which brings me to the next dead end, Mae and Anna married the Stansell brothers, Emery and Arthur STANSELL. They all lived in an around Florence. Any help on them would be appreciated. Now, the OTHER SIDE OF THE FAMILY. Gabe DAVIS was married to Mary MCLEMORE. He died in 1850 leaving her with a bunch of little kids. I've got Mclemore settled. DAVIS stops right there. Somewhere along the line his birth is said to be in SC but I have no proof. I need to know anything about him. If any of these names fit into your work somewhere I would love to discuss them. Kathy

My brick walls from Lauderdale Co. are John W. McClain or Wilson McClain, born in 1852 in AL and his wife Mattie Rayburn, born in 1859 in AL. They were married in Lauderdale Co. om May 23, 1880. They were in Hardin Co. TN on the 1900 census. I would like to find the parents of both of them. The 1880 census says that John's parents are from TN. Thanks

My "brick wall" is the THORNBERRY family. They were in Lauderdale Co. ca 1820's - 1850's. Joseph A. Thornberry Wife: Mildred (possibly a Fuqua) Children: John W.; Jonathan m. Margaret McLemore; Ruthy m. Robert McLemore; Charles; Wiley; Margaret Tabitha m. Theophilus Wall; and Nancy m. John Stanford. Joseph A. Thornberry bought acreage in 1818 near Elks River in Limestone Co., Ala. He died in 1825. Wife Mildred married again in 1828 to Howell McLemore. Guardian to children was Washington G. L. Foley; Andrew Mc Peters was a second guardian appointed in 1836. Administrator of Joseph A. Thornberry's estate was Archibald Fuqua. It is possible that Mildred was a Fuqua. I would appreciate information on any of the names listed above. Jean McCullough
1. I would like to find the burial for Jonathan Duncan and wife, Jane "Jincy" Jones Duncan. Even if anyone has knowledge of an unmarked grave, please respond. Their son, Moses and many descendants are buried at Duncan Cemetery and Florence City Cemetery. 2. I have nothing on Sallie Duncan, daughter of George Washington Duncan and Sarah Mariah Smith Duncan. Does anyone have a marriage for Sarah "Sallie" Duncan? She was born abt. 1866. Sallie had brothers: Robert, George W. and a sister, Elizabeth "Lizzie" Duncan Peerson. ( I have information on her siblings). Robert and Lizzie and spouses are buried at Florence City Cemetery. George is buried in Colbert County in Smith Cemetery. Sallie had half brothers: William, Hugh and Clay (I have information on them). I just can find nothing on Sallie herself--no husband, no death. 3. George Washington Duncan (1829 - 1917) married Sarah Mariah Smith abt. 1858/1859. Does anyone have an actual date? I have found her by both names--Sallie and Mariah. George Washington Duncan (1829 - 1917) married 2nd: Nannie C. Tompkins March 20, 1872. I feel Tompkins was a married name as I believe she was married first to James Henry Tompkins. Does anyone know anything of Nancy "Nannie".....I am looking for her maiden name and her family. I am also looking for her burial location. I believe she died before 1900. 4. Sarah Mariah Smith (1838-1871) I am looking for her family--a total brick wall. She married George Washington Duncan abt. 1859. Census information has George in Lauderdale County for 1850, George and Sallie in Lauderdale County for 1860, but by 1870, they are listed in Colbert County. The only clue I may have is an elderly man lives with them in 1870--Jefferson Smith born TN, yet.....that could just be a coincidence with a name like Smith and Jefferson could just be a hired hand. Thank you, Karen
I am researching the Martin H. Palmore/Palmer line what was in Hardin County and Wayne County TN and in between the years of 1830-1850 were in Lauderdale County. M. H. Palmore had three sons by his first wife (her name is unknown) Thomas Martin, b. 1838 William Asbury b. 1839 Joshua/Joseph D.b. 1840 In the 1850 Hardin County Census he is enumerated with Kezziah A. (Adeline) 26, and the sons listed above and John R. Palmore, 2. John R.was a son of Martin's by Keziah ( nee Shull) There is no record of Martin H. after that census but Keziah Adeline is in the 1860 census of Hardin County enumerated with: John R. 13 Mary 10 Charles Luther 4 All with the name of Palmore. The older boys were gone from the area as well as Martin H. Adeline died in 1866 and the Shull family disposed of her belongings. Does anyone have any information about this family? I have had DNA tests done along with other Palmer/Palmore and it shows that my Palmer line is an exact match with the Claiborn Palmore line in Lawrence County TN....so we know we are related but with both lines doing genealogy we have hit a brick wall in Lauderdale/Hardin County and cannot get past 1850. William Asbury was my gggrandfather and he popped up in Lamar Co. AL(Sanford County then) County in 1870 with a family. Thomas went to Texas by 1880 and Joshua was in Lamar County AL in 1870, enumerated with a Joshua Miller, 50 of TN Any information on any of these people would be a blessing. Thank you, Sue Palmer~Elliott

I'm replying to Trecia as well as the list. I have found that when using Ancestry.com for census information that there is sometimes a problem. If you put the name in a general search and the name appears with the information, you just click to view the record - BUT - they are not on that page and not in that image. I Trecia's case, they are on NEXT page, 249B. But I have found that the image is NOWHERE near the family. I then look at the township and page number and then search from the beginning. Go into year, state, county, and THEN look for the page number. I've done this quite a few times and it saves me a lot of frustration. Adele
