    2. Jim and Charlotte
    3. Surnames: Martin, McClain, Watson, Parker, Rayburn Hi Kathy and Kaye; Thank you both for your help. The McClain's I am looking for are a John McClain who was a Justice Of The Peace there in Lauderdale Co., at least from 1853-1872. Then there is a John McClain and wife, Shotzy or Shorty, I don't know if it is the same John and thought maybe the book would tell. Then a Wilson McClain who married a Mattie Rayburn in 1880. Anything on any of these people would help,, even Mattie Rayburn. I can't find who her people were either. I have a lot of people from the Lauderdale Co., area, Parker's, Watson's, Martins, McClain's and Rayburn's. Thank you very much I really appreciate you taking the time to look for me. Charlotte

    1. Lauderdale County, Alabama Heritage Book
    2. Pat Mahan
    3. Good Morning All, For those of you that might not know about it, and for those of you that have been thinking "I want to get a copy of that book," now may be the time to do it. Personally, I will tell you that it is a real treasure trove of family information, local history and lore. Regarding the availability of the Lauderdale County, Alabama Heritage Book, Millie Mason gave me the following information. If you are interested in obtaining a book, please contact Millie OFF LIST for particulars at loray2358@comcast.net . : ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Sales of the reprinted Heritage Book of Lauderdale County have been going well. The book has over 800 family stories, old schools and churches, businesses, military, all historical markers in Lauderdale County, history of Lauderdale County and the cities, towns and communities. Lots of old family pictures are included with the articles and it is indexed by last names. I have about 15 left at home and the company has some. If anyone would like a copy of this book of history, they may contact me at: loray2358@comcast.net. Another reprint is not planned. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Before I forget it, Millie is also the author/compiler of "Waterloo School Through the Ages 1800s through 2002" so if you have interests in the Waterloo area, you might want to consider this book. It's soft cover, 81/2 X 11 inches, has a full name index. Very easy to use for research, and also nice to just read. For those of you from Waterloo, it would be a real nostalgia trip. For information about this book, please contact Millie OFF LIST at loray2358@comcast.net . ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Pat

    1. Re: [ALLAUDER] Re: 3rd Post attempt for CAGLE who were Union men
    2. David Cagle
    3. Joel, There were only two Cagles in Hardin County of the age to be soldiers during the Civil War. Henry Overton Cagle, 1842-1898 and Charles Talley Cagle, 1844-1930. Great uncle Henry joined a Confederate Artillery unit and Great grandfather Charley did not join until he was old enough in 1863. He was in the First Confederate Cavalry. In early 1863 most of the First Confederate was captured at the Duck River in Shelbyville Tennessee saving Gen. Joseph Wheeler's behind. The recruiters came back to Hardin county to get new recruits in late 1863. That was when Charley Cagle joined. The Whitlow side of my family, (my mothers name), lived in the same neighborhood. An older great-uncle joined the Confederate Army in late 1861 and was dead by March 1862. His younger older brother joined the Union Army in 1864. 1. Parrish/Parish
    2. Jim Parrish
    3. I am looking for any information on the family of J.C. PARRISH/PARISH b. May 1861 & Sarah J. LONG b. Sep. 1861. According to the Lauderdale County Probate Records, James C. PARRISH and Sarah J. LONG were married on September 23, 1883 at John LONG'S house. Also according to the 1900 U.S. Census, which was taken on June 8th and 9th 1900 (sheet B 4 lines 51- 54) this family was living in the Waterloo Pct. #17 with their two children, Fannie E. age 15 b. Mar. 1885 and John W. age 10 b. Sep. 1889. During that same 1900 U.S. Census, dated June 21st. John W. is shown living with an uncle, W.C. PARRISH in the same Waterloo Pct. There is no listing for Fannie. She may have married or moved in with a different family. I believe that the Waterloo Precinct #17 is the Village of Wright, Alabama. I haven't been able to locate any further information on the family of J.C. and Sarah. My thoughts are that J.C. & Sarah died suddenly from a sickness or other mishap, but I haven't been able to find any obituaries regarding their deaths. I know that some of the cemeteries in that area were re-located because of the rising waters of Pickwick Lake and that a lot of the grave markers were un-named or lost, but I'm in hopes that their is someone with knowledge of who they were and what happened to them. Any help would be greatly appreciated Jim Parrish Waupun, Wisconsin

    3. David & List, I see that your (David's) Cagles of Hardin Co TN were mostly CSA men. As you likely know the border area of AL/TN was Guerilla warfare territory. Quite a few Alabamians who fled the CSA went into Hardin, Wayne & Lawrence counties TN seeking refuge from the CSA; many of those from Winston/Blount/Cullman, Walker county areas walked the "Freedom trail", a back-path that led from the counties south of the TN River through the outskirts of Florence and into Wayne & Hardin Co TN for refuge. Some of these AL refugees joined up with the infamous Union Regiments raised there. A fair number of your Cagles from down Alabama way were among the Union men: >Unionist, John Adam Cagle b 1798 Carrubus Co NC d Oct 1, 1863, killed by CSA homeguard, Boar Tusk, Winston Co AL >1st Ala Cavalry (USV), Albert S.
