To all those who were attending the Tom Clark Family Reunion: The reunion that was to be held this Saturday, September, 3rd has been canceled because of circumstances beyond our control. Rising gas prices and empty gas pumps has caused travel problems for our family members that live far distances from Lauderdale Alabama. The renion will be rescheduled for a later date. Thanks Charlotte Killen Borden

You can find lots of old names at: http://geonames.usgs.gov/ ; click on <http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnispublic/f?p=gnispq>U.S. and territories Query . It shows the following in Limestone county next door to Lauderdale: Feature ID:166333 Name:Tickridge Post Office (historical) Class:Post Office Citation:U.S. Post Office Dept. Record of Site Locations 1837-1950: Alabama Counties. National Archives Microfilm Publication M1126. Entry Date:01-Dec-2003 County State Country Limestone Alabama US Map Name Cairo So it might not be on current maps, but if you find an old one, look near Cairo in Limestone Co. Or, maybe that part of today's Limestone Co was in Lauderdale at some point. For example: http://www.archives.state.al.us/counties/limeston.html says >An act of the state General Assembly on 1821 Nov. 27 gave to the >county all of the land belonging to Lauderdale County, in the fork >of the Tennessee and Elk Rivers, east of range six. The following is all I find on Tick------ in published records. I'll ask around, because the name is most unusual, but I'll bet that the area is already in the information below. Pat ___________________________________________________________ Sockwell's "Place Names of Colbert and Lauderdale Counties, Alabama" : TICKVILLE SCHOOL. Loc. in SW 1/4 of S5, T1s, R9w, 1/2 mi. north of Upper Green Hill, directly west and across Jackson H'way fr. old John Lemaster home place. Some say it was estab. soon after the Civil War and others say later, c. 1882. Discont. c. 1898. This was a one-room log cabin, one o the early schools in the county. Supposedly so named because of the many ticks in the area. Garrett's "History of Lauderdale County, Alabama" p. 157 "County School System" Tickville School, a one-room log cabin, near Green Hill was an early school i the county. In 1885 the teach of this school was the mother of Allen Thornton, the current Lauderdale County Superintendent of Education. Hill's "A History of Green Hill and Some Surrounding Communities in Lauderdale County, Alabama with 54 Cemeteries of the County." Located in what is now known as upper Green Hill on the east side of "Andrew Jackson's Military Road" It is believed by some that this school was built about 1870 but evidence indicate that it was built about 1882. It was discontinued about 1898 and students attended school at Green Hill, which was about one mile south of Tickville School. Perhaps the first teacher here was Miss Montague, who was from Wayne County, Tennessee. Mr. James (Jim) Thigpen was also a teacher here.
Can anyone tell me where Tickridge is in Lauderdale Co., AL? My Henry Wade Williams married Calline (Caroline) Lanier October 6, 1880 at that place. I thought if I knew where it was at, I could print off a map from the Lauderdale site. I am still trying to find out where Caroline is buried. I think she died in 1890. But don't know if it was in AL or AR. I have been trying to locate her for years. Her husband landed over in Little River Co., AR. He married 2 more times. He died in 1940. He was born in 1855. I would think that someone studying the Lanier lines might have this info. Thanks for any help anyone can give me. Jane Foley Cornelus, NC

If you are searching for ancestors who married in Caddo Parish, LA, this may help you. According to an item in July 31, THE TIMES, Shreveport, LA, newspaper, and the notice on the Caddo Parish site, the marriage indexes are now available online to the general public for no charge. The system is STILL BEING TESTED but you can try it now by clicking on: http://www.caddoclerk.com/ and then clicking on: "TRY IT" and using the following: USER NAME: muser PASSWORD: caddo The newspaper article states: "Searches can be by the name of the groom, the bride, and the bride's maiden name. And partial names are okay. People can also search by book and page or by date. So if you want to see the names of everyone who a license on Dec. 8, 1941, the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor and the rush of folks to get married before going off to war, they are there." It further states: "While the Caddo marriage records date back to 1838, the online search now only goes back to the early 1930's." 1st Annual Wedding Reunion at the Tishomingo County Archives & History Museum Saturday, September 3, 2005 Did you tie the knot in Iuka, Mississippi? Do you know someone who did? At one period in history, Tishomingo County, Mississippi, was referred to as the "Marriage Capital of the South." During this time, surrounding states had a three-day waiting period for a marriage license. The State of Mississippi had no such law; therefore, citizens of Tennessee and Alabama would drive to Iuka and be married in the courthouse. Return to the courthouse with your families to remember where your lives began together. A Mass Re-Commitment Ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. followed by a reception for all couples. Single ceremonies will be available throughout the day. All couples who pre-register will receive a Certificate of Marriage and a photo to commemorate their re-commitment. This will not be a legal document, and no proof of age will be required. Pre-registration is required by August 26, 2005. Cost is $15 per couple (includes certificate, photo, and reception.) For more information, contact TCAHM, 203 E. Quitman Street, P.O. Box 273, Iuka, MS 38852. You may also call (662) 423-3500 or e-mail tcarchives@nadata.net.
