    1. Re: William Page
    2. Sabra Newell Sudberry
    3. Wow! I am a Castleberry descendant, and found a handwritten will for this Martin Castleberry in,I think,Monroe Co., MS, at the courthouse. I cannot promise that was where it was, but will dig it up and see. I am the 5th great granddaughter of William Martin Castleberry, Revolutionary Soldier, who was living near Augusta, GA I am thinking when he entered the war. He had lived in Spartanburg Co. during the time he married Elizabeth C. Smith, daughter of Fleming Smith. There must be some connection here of course, but I can't figure it out yet. William Martin Castleberry's daughter, Dorcas, married Abraham Howton, and they moved from Hopkins Co., KY (where William Martin Castleberry moved after the war) to Fayette Co., AL. Abraham owned many slaves and owned about a third of what is now the town of Fayette. There was also a Soloman Castleberry in the same area, but I can't fit him into my group yet. Some of these came directly from GA I believe. Eventually, my line moved to Lamar Co., first to Crossville, then on to Beaverton. Some descendants are also in Millport and Kennedy. As for the Pages, that is really interesting. I have spent the last two years working on the Heritage of Lamar County book, a book about the families, places, etc. in Lamar Co. I have been in the area you describe but cannot remember any Page graves. I suggest you call Bo Morris, who knows everything about the area there, and see if he can tell you where this is. I have been to several cemeteries hidden in the hills with him, in that area which include the Bankhead graveyard, where the Senator's father is buried, the Stanford Cemetery across from Shug's Cafe, the Brown Cemetery, and there is one also on that side of the road called the Jarrett Cemetery that I have yet to go to, but will eventually. There may very well be more. I think there are graves in the back of the Allman property also, down the road a piece. And another one I thought of just now is called Old Bethel, but it is more in the Beaverton boundary. Course at the time, I think this was not considered Beaverton, but Pikeville. Before Lamar Co. became a county, Beaverton was considered in Marion Co. You really need to talk to Bo, who is a lot more knowledgeable about this area. His phone number is 205-698-8090. If I can get a census down and look I might be able to pinpoint where they were based on their order in the book. Many families can be plotted this way, as they owned land that is verifiable on the tract book (and on the BLM site if you don't have access to this). If you can go to the BLM site and find that they owned land, I can tell you exactly where they were living. This is a good time for me to help you as we are in between proofings for the book and I am not working during the summer (except selling ads for the book). Sabra

    1. William Page
    2. Delores King
    3. William Page lived in Lamar County from about 1868 to his death in 1908. From distant cousins that have visited the gravesite, I know that he is buried on a farm a couple of miles from Crews. AL. The graves (three) are in the yard of the farmer; I believe the graves would be for William, his second wife, Martha and possible his Mother Susan Page. Does anyone know the exact location of the graves? If so, would you please send me directions and the name of the present owner of the farm on which the graves are located. I am interested in contacting any descendants of William. His son from his first marriage, John Calhoun Page, is my G Grandfather. William and Martha Webb's children were: Josephine(m.J.P. Weeks), John Davis Wortham Page (m.Elizabeth Lindley) , Mary Elizabeth (Betty) (m. William A. Flinn) and Nancy (Nan) (m. Reese). Wm was born in Pickens County, AL, lived in Monroe County, MS and Lamar Co, AL. His Mother's name was Susan (Ritchie). His father is not known may have been named John. Need proof. Wm had a cousin named John M. Tillotson, and was a nephew of Eleanor Ritchie Castleberry who was married to Martin Castleberry. Eleanor, Susan and another sister named Mary; were all born in SC. Where? Parents? Any help appreciated. Delores King

I am researching Robertson and Moore in Lamar County and was told by a cousin that some of the Robertsons are buried in Penhook Cemetary, which is supposed to be near Hightogy, AL, but it's been 20 years since she was there and she can't remember how to get there! I will be in the area the last part of June and would like to make a trip to this cemetary if anyone could possibly tell me how to get there from Columbus, MS or where I can find out more information. 3. I am trying to find info on Hattie Adkins whose mother could have been Mary Adkins. Hattie would have been born around 1888. My GGGF, John Leonard Weeks, was living with her in 1920 Census in Lamar Co. on Beaverton Rd. Would Beaverton Road have been Highway 278 or another road back then. Also need to know where Browns Beat #4 was in 1900. Thanks very much. J.D. Weeks -- __________________________________________________________________ |J.D. 1. Re: need lookup
    2. Mollee Puckett
    3. Ruthe, I looked up the entry you requested, but I cannot tell for certain what the surname is. The enumerator's handrwriting is terrible for one thing, and then the ink smear across the name covers at least half of the name. It definitely looks like the name ends in -ette but that is all that I can be certain about. Was Willie's father Benjamin F. Burnette with a wife named Jala or Julia? That is what is given on this sheet, then the children listed are Cora age 10, Rebeca age 8, Bula age 6, George W. age 5, and Willie age 7 months. Even though it seems unlikely, the children are all listed as having a mother born in Mississippi as was Jala/Julia. That would probably mean that she had Cora when she was 15, if Jala/Julia is the mother of all the children. Sorry that I couldn't be more definite about the name. Have you checked the 1870 census for them. Were they in Lamar County in 1870? I have that census also and would be willing to do a lookup if you can give me the page. 3. I do have this book, and it is very large and very detailed. Eileen did an excellent job on it. Unfortunately it does not have an index, and I can't go through all 402 pages at this time. I suggest you call her and she can probably tell you what page it's on. Her number is 205-698-8313. If she'll give permission, then I will copy the reference for you if you will let me know where it's at. Good luck, Sabra
