    1. Heritage book update
    2. Sabra Newell Sudberry
    3. To All Listmembers of ALLAMAR: R.E.: The Heritage of Lamar County, Alabama Sections A-R (partial R) of the family section were mailed back to the publisher today. We expect the remaining sections of R-Y to be returned to us within a month. Last month we were told that the book was 700 pages long, but that was before some stories had been added back that had been left out. We were informed this month, by our consultant, that our book was on the fast track to be published. They anticipate Christmas for delivery. We appreciate everyone's patience with us. This has been a monumental task for all of us, and it is not something that is quickly done. We have also been informed that upon publication, the cost of the book will increase to $69.95. It is currently $60.40, plus $4.00 shipping. Books may still be ordered from the Heritage of Lamar Co., AL Book Committee, P.O. Box 216, Kennedy, AL 35574. We think we can still get ads and memorials in the back of the book, if anyone wants to place one for their family or deceased loved ones. Some have also utilized this space for their stories that they were not able to get into the main body of the book. Please email me for prices if you are interested. 3. NO!! That is not correct. This question was put to Mr. Bice in the Escambia COunty Heritage Project meetings and he told us that the submitter retained the copyright to their stories.THey can have their story published as many times as they like. Now the book itself cannot be published or reprinted by another company with out permission from the Heritage Project because of the copyright, but each submitter, retains the copyright to their story. If the rules are changing here, I will pull the stories I have submitted to four counties that have not gone into publication and withdraw my support of the project. Lygai D. 3. Sabra and Eric, I never signed a release of any sort for the article I submitted to be copyrighted. A review of Section 101 of the copyright law will show that this was NOT made for hire. Not allowing the information in the Heritage books to be copied is going against the ideals of many of those writing the articles and researching the families. The only reason I submitted any article was to share my information and hope to find others interested in my family. Now I hear that Heritage owns my story and I can't publish it if I want to??? Is the Heritage Book company a for-profit organization? I bought several books and know how expensive they are to publish. However, if the material published was obtained fraudulently, and the submitters were not informed of the intent; there is a problem. A response would be appreciated. We find this a worthy project, a continuation of the project that we began in working on the Heritage of Lamar County book committee, which we all did for 2 and a half years, without pay. It would have been nice had we been able to receive pay for our efforts, as it was very time-consuming, which is understandable on her part in wanting pay. My only objection is that I do not think this column should include those stories in your paper that have been submitted to the Lamar County Heritage Book. 2. Barbara Carruth
    3. If you have enjoyed the "Lamar County Kin" columns that have been in the Lamar Leader for the past 11 weeks and The Lamar Democrat for the past 5 weeks, you should contact the papers and let them know how you feel. Unless readers, such as yourself, respond to the papers and let them know that you want "Lamar County Kin' printed, the column is a thing of the past. I have been writing for free and have asked to be paid. The Democrat is not printing until he hears from his readers. The Lamar Leader hasn't responded to my request. I have been excited about the column and have lots of ideas hopefully I can continue with " Lamar County Kin". Call : Lamar Leader 205 698 8148 The Lamar Democrat 205 695 7029 or email democrat@fayette.net Thanks for your help. Barbara Woolbright Carruth

    3. Charlie Alexander was married to my great great aunt, Julia Missouri Lockhart. I think their granddaughter may be on this list. If not, I can try to find her email for you. She has extensive info on the line. Her name is Judy Alexander, and she lives in Winfield. She sent a photo of Charlie and Julia that is going in the heritage book. Someone else wrote the main story on the Thomas Alexander line though. They were in Belk also I believe, as well as Kennedy. You might try calling a friend of mine who did a story on this family, Mary Elmore, 205-553-0703, if you don't want to wait for the book to come out. I can't recall who wrote the other story on Thomas, but I do remember there was another one. Sabra
