Does anyone have information as to which church Rev. Moss was pasroe in 1875? I am also researching Rooks family., especially Martha Rooks who married Wm. Willis in Lamar Co. in 1868. I appreciate help from any one out there. Jean Willis
The pictures need to be in TIFF uncompressed, scan at a minimum of 266 dpi, also scan as "gray scale" not color. You should crop out any unnecessary parts of the pic or white space prior to sizing. If you could save as TIFF and put on a CD and mail too me would be good, if not email will be okay. I want the best quality possible so we will have a good book for Lamar County. Thanks so much for your interest and help. Barbara Woolbright Carruth
Listmembers: I made a mistake on the price of mailing the book in state!! It is $75.00. Sorry! Sabra
Congratualtions Barbara on your efforts toward the Lamar Co. Kin Image Book, published by Arcadia. I did one in their Postcard History Series about Birmingham, which was published last December. Arcadia is a wonderful publisher of local history books. Mine is titled "Birmingham-A Postcard Tour" and has sold pretty well at local Birmingham area bookstores and on the internet. It contains 200 of my antique postcard views of Birmingham as it was around 1900. Information about it can be seen on my web site at http://www.geocities.com/jdweeks37/pcbook.html . I look forward to purchasing an autographed copy of yours and good luck. J.D. ____________________________________________________________ J.D. What is now Lamar county was formed from Fayette and Marion counties on Feb. 4, 1867. It was then called Jones county. This remained til Nov. 13, 1867 when the county was abolished and returned to Fayette and Marion counties. On Oct 8 1868, the county was formed again and called Sanford county, this time. It remained Sanford county until Feb. 8, 1877. On this date, the name was officially changed to Lamar county. Good luck, Theresa
Does anyone happen to know the exact dates of when the persons living in Fayette were switched to Sanford and then again, switched to Lamar. Did it happen on the change of the decades, at the time of the Federal Census, or at some other time? I am trying to figure out places of birth. Thanks for your help, Janie Spencer

The latest update of... <A HREF="http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~cobb/">Cobb and Cobbs</A>... is now online. MC
On page 416 in the Lamar Co. Heritage Book is an article about Clyde V. Matthews written by Ina Burnett Morris. I am a collector of postcards (have over 14,000) and I recently found two real photo postcards dated Oct. 12, 1905. One was written to Mr. Clyde V. Matthews, Sulligent, AL and is from Ruby and says "Write sometime to your "prisoner" sis, Rubie. A picture of a young lady is on the postcard and is probably her. The other postcard is addressed to Miss Ruby Matthews, Sulligent, Alabama. It has a picture of four young ladies and has written by the picture "Latest Almanae". If Ms. Morris would contact me, I would love for her or some family member to have these postcards. I bought them because I also do research in Lamar/Marion County on my Weeks, Bussey, Sandlin, Page, Webb, Gardner, Vest, Rollo, etc. lines, and that caught my eye. (Thanks Sabra, for the info) J.D. ____________________________________________________________ J.D.
