Dear Listmembers: This letter is to inform you that my cousin, Sue Palmer Elliott, will be taking over the Lamar Co. website on Rootsweb. As many of you know, I suffered from cancer last year, and now it has spread to my liver. I had hoped to try to get the site working this summer, but due to my health, I cannot. Sue has graciously agreed to try to maintain it. Allison Saxman has also offered her help. My thanks to both of you, and to all who have been so patient with me in the past two years. I know that the site will be maintained excellently as Sue has the same love for Lamar Co. that I do. I hope that as I feel better, and I believe that I will, I will be able to contribute to the Macedonia site, that many of you have asked about. Thank you, Sabra Sudberry ALLAMAR Listowner

Lula Jones and was told her grave was not marked. Is the name of the cemetery Kenedy or Kennedy? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Janie Spencer
From a notice in my Civil War Preservation Trust newsletter, Hallowed Ground: Saturday, June 23, 8 p.m. The History Channel will air a new program about Civil War battlefield preservation. "Save Our History: Civil War Battlefields" includes interviews with Civil War Preservation Trust personnel and preservationists around the country. It highlights endangered battlefields from Gettysburg to Vicksburg. Thought this might be of interest to those of us whose ancestors fought for the glorious cause. (Pardon the multiple sendings, but I want to make sure all those who are interested would be made aware of this.) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Researching: (1) Porter, McCants, Cobb, Martin, Rawlinson, Gill, Higgins, Scott, Harrison, Fetner; (2) Bryant, McDade, Dillard, Tolleson, Wells, Baxter, Eaves; (3) Kinard, Wise, Thaxton, Vickers, Patton, Hubbard, Wilkins, Long/Lang, Latta (Branch 28), Mauldin, Dismukes. Can someone help me with a legal term used regarding land back in the 1840's? Our Texas laws were based on the Spanish Code while Louisiana laws were based on the Napoleonic Code, and I believe the laws for Alabama and Georgia were based on the English Code. I have come across the term "FIFA" - (fieri facias) - which means one who has received judgment for debt or damage. When this is used in a statement such as: " Sheriff Sale -- 500 acres of John Doe FIFA John Smith" is John Doe the plaintiff suing or forcing the sale of land owned by John Smith the defendant for debt or damage? I know in Texas the plaintiff is named first. I asked a friend who has a title company and he didn't know as he had never seen "FIFA" used in Texas land records. Since this involved land in Alabama and Georgia, we decided it must be from the English Code and don't know if the same rules apply for the plaintiff to be named first and the defendant second. Thanks, Peggy Horton Marshall, Tx.

Dear List: I'm so glad my "labor of love" is a help to many of you! When I began researching my family, I thought most of what I needed would be found in Northeastern Mississippi, where I was born and where my grandparents & great-grands lived when I was small. Surprise - most of my relatives were in and around Lamar County from as early as 1830 until 1920! I appreciate the kind emails I've received thanking me for the index, and it dawned on me that I haven't posted my Lamar County surnames in quite a while! So here goes: ROBERTSON (two separate lines - maternal & paternal), HICKS, MOORE, SANDERS, LOFTIS, ALLEN, WHEELER, PRICE and WRIGHT and several allied lines, too. Happy hunting to all! Allison
