    1. [ALJEFFER] McGill,Disspain, Glynn: Questions and Brickwalls
    2. I am interested in hearing from anyone who has seen or heard of any connection between the Disspain and McGill families in either Alabama and /or SC - On the 1880 Alabama Census for Jefferson co-probably Argo- Duke W. McGill age 10, born in Alabama is enumerated with his "mother" Elizabeth Disspain. Elizabeth Disspain according to information that I have found on the LDS site was from SC born about 1824 and was the wife of James Disspain from Pickens SC. She was also the mother of Benjamin W. Disspain. Elizabeth's husband James Disspain , again, according to information from the LDS site shows Elizabeth a widow between 1865 and 69. Benjamin W. Disspain married Margaret Glynn. Margaret Glynn's people were also from Pickens SC. Now for the McGill question: In 1880 Elizabeth Disspain is enumerated with 3 children. Martha Disspain age 21, born Alabama and O.E. T. Disspain age 16 born Alabama and as I have said before, her youngest as listed is Duke W. McGill age 10. Question: If Elizabeth Disspain is truly his mother why is she still a Disspain and not a McGill? I have come to believe- old gut feeling- that she is an aunt or grandmother, etc. but can find no connection between any of the families except that Margaret Glynn had a grandfather named Duke W. Glynn- Ben Disspain worked for the Southern RR as did Duke W. McGill later in life. Duke W. McGill was born in Argo, Alabama. The only McGills in the area during that time were Clayton McGill and a James C. McGill. Clayton's children on any census that I found him on do not include a Duke and have not been able to locate James C. although he was in the area according to land records at approximately the same time. Sorry for the long message- looking for any clues. Thanks, Peggy in TX
