Michael, I have never heard of Cowega or Ft. Mitchell, but I can confirm that Elyton is in the western section of Birmingham. At one time,I understand it was a town of it's own. In 1910, Elyton became a suburb of the city of Birmingham. You may try the Birmingham City Library. They have much info on all of Alabama. They have all of the census records & City Directories. The directories can be of great help in finding addresses & occupations. My wife & I go to the Birmingham Library from time to time. I would be happy to see what info they may have. Send me your email address & I will be glad to try & help.
