Michael, I have an 1847 map of Al and have not been able to find Cowega-there is a Cowikee in Barbour County. Fort Mitchell is a river in Russell County that empties into the Chattahootche on the Ga border. Elyton is in Jefferson County and, if you have ever been to Legion Field, you were in what was once Elyton. During the CW Elyton was a mfg town and was destroyed by the Union under Gen Wilson(no relation <g>). If you need more info, let me know, E. D.
