Dear Sandra Hood: Saw your posting on Jefferson Co, AL rootsweb and while I don't have any information to help you, I wanted to let you know that I am also researching HOODs in Jefferson Co, AL in somewhat the same era. My gg grandmother was named Violet HOOD, b. 1842 in SC. She married John SILK on 18 Oct 1866 in Jefferson Co, AL at "the home of the bride's mother". I have looked at all the census' I could find for Jefferson Co prior to 1866 and while there are a number of HOOD families there, I can't find a family for Violet, nor is there a woman on the 1860 census that would be a candidate for 'bride's mother' --- oh, why, why, why couldn't the clerk have put Violet's mother's name on the marriage license!!!!!!!!! I doubt that we are connected, but just thought to send out the information on the long shot that something clicks. Carol Vass
