    3. Hi, Here is early information on the Durdens. If anyone has information on any of the names listed in this brief, please let me know. Durden This name goes back to pre-Norman time, old Anglo-Saxon. The first Durden to America was Stephen who settled in Nanosecond County, Va. in 1640. His son, Jacob Durden, b. 1681, inherited his land, as well as lands in Isle of Wight County, Va. Jacob Durden, Jr. was born Isle of Wight Co. in 1798, Capt. in Rev. War. His son, john Durden, Jr. b. Isle of Wight Co., Va., d. Wilkes Co., Ga. 1800. He was married to Sarah Coleman (1736-1786), and after their marriage moved to Wilkes Co., Ga. to be near their daughter, Elizabeth, who had married Stephen Heard, who was much older then she. John Durden, Jr. and his wife, Sarah Coleman, had seven children, as follows: William Durden, b. 1775 N. C. m. Mary Dekle of Hanover, Germany b. 1784, d. 1855. They first settled in Montgomery Co. Ga. in vicinity of Norristown in 1805. Issue as follows: a. Dennis Durden, b. 1805 Wilkes Co., Ga., d. 1876. b. Eleanor Durden, b. 1809 Montgomery Co., Ga., d. 1862 c. Simeon Durden, b. 1821 Montgomery Co., Ga., d. 1892. d. Ebenezer Durden, b. 1828 Montgomery Co., Ga., d. 1914 e. William Durden, b. 8/15/1817 Montgomery Co. d. 1863 m. Elizabeth Barwick, and had issue: Mary, b. 1838; Nathan N., b. 1830. m. Belinda Kea 5/10/1857 Emanuel Co. Ga.: Martha Jane, b.. 1841; Dennis S. b. 1844; William J. b. 1846; Roan, b. 1842; Eleazer L. b. 1851; and John, b. 1854 m. Patsy Knight (she d. 10/30/1938). Issue: Willie, Norris W. Lucion, Ella, 1883-1884, Eason, Meady m. Ola Yeamons, Bobby, Odie V. ll. Stephen Durden, listed 1805, Hancock Co. Ga. land lottery. lll. Jacob Durden, listed 1805 Ga. land lottery, Montgomery Co. Also on 1820 Emanuel Co. Ga. Census. lV. George Durden. V. Elizabeth Durden m. Stephen Heard and lived Wilkes Co. Ga Vl. John Durden, listed 1805 Ga. land lottery in Montgomery Co Capt. John Durden, Sr., capt. of Va. Militia, listed in Historical Register of Virginians in the Revolution, P. 207, by John H. Gwathmey. His wife, Mary was b. 1786. Their son, John Durden, jr. m. Sarah Newton and settled in Montgomery Co., and Washington Co.,Ga. now part of Emanuel Co. John, Jr. was also a Rev. War Soldier. John Durden, Jr. had a son, Jacob Durden, b. 1755, Rev. War Soldier, who m. 1783 Mary Ann (Mollie) Hilliard, Molly b. 1765 d. 1846. Jacob is listed in Georgia's roster of the Revolution by Lucian Lamar Knight, p. 313, 450, as refugee soldier in Ga. Mollie Hilliard, the dau. of Elias Hilliard of Granville Co., N. C. They had dau., Zilhia who was b. 11/16/1784 N. C. d. after 1860 Emanuel Co., Ga. m. Joshua Roundtree, had dau., Sarah.
