My father was born in Brimingham, AL on September 23, 1923. His birth certificate states: for city is says,"Birmingham, AL Maternity Hosp" Was there a maternity hospital there then? Is it still there? Where would records for this be? There is no information on the father on the birth certificate, but it lists my grandmother's name as A. Shepherd. Is there a city directory for 1922-1924? I realize that its a long shot but I'm looking to see if I can locate James Everett Shepherd or Shephard or Alfretta Felsher or Alfretta Shepherd there during this time period. I have my grandfather's name from court papers when my dad had his name legally changed. James Shepherd supposedly was dead by about June 1924 when my dad was given to relatives to raise.
