Special Collection 800 Lakeshore Drive : Birmingham, Alabama 35229 Location and Hours The Special Collection department is located on the lower level of the Samford University Library and is open to the public. The material in Special Collection is restricted to use within the collection. The collection is open Monday - Friday 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. The hours for the collection may vary when the University is not in session. If you are not familiar with Samford University or the Birmingham area, maps are available to assist you. Holdings The department houses original as well as secondary genealogical and historical materials. The collection contains information primarily concerning Alabama and the Southeastern United States. However, the archive also maintains an Irish Historical Collection focusing primarily on the counties Cork and Kerry. Other materials housed in the collection include, family histories, Baptist materials, congregational and regional records, maps, local historical and genealogical periodicals, newspapers, census records, and various audio visuals. The Special Collection department also serves as the archive for Samford University and Howard College.
