    3. As several have mentioned, the cheapest place to get Alabama death certificates is at Wallace State because you can locate them yourself on microfilm and print them out for about a quarter each. However, it is not that convenient for a lot of us to drive to Hanceville just for that purpose. It is also not convenient to go to the Health Department in downtown Birmingham due to traffic and parking. I live in Blount County and go to the Health Department in Oneonta. There is ample parking. It has never taken over 30 minutes to fill out the form, pay the $12, hand the form to the person in that office/department who faxes it to Montgomery and, in most cases, they fax the certified copy right back within 15 to 20 minutes. The more information you can fill out on the form (such as town, county, age, birthplace, etc.) the quicker they can locate it and fax it back. It is true that they say it costs $12 whether they find it or not, but I don't know if that's always the case since all of them we have requested were found. On one occasion they did fax back and request more information on my reason for requesting the form, but that was for a more recent death. I would check with the Health Department that I was closest to and they can request the death certificate regardless of which county the death occurred in. Evelyn Leslie Remlap, AL [email protected]
