My grandfather was born in 1876 and lived in St. Clair Co,AL. When he was a small boy, a neighbor asked him to go to Birmingham with him to sell his peaches. They left in a wagon the next morning. He said it took two days to get there and they slept on the side of the road the first night. When they arrived in Birmingham, there was only a hotel and a stable.
