I have proved that by Civil War records, etc. You notice how long Jabez remained at home? Then I can't find him or Cornelia, his wife anywhere. Not really sure of the date they married. Her name is supposed to be, Cornelia Henrietta Lowe Gray. I have never found them on a census married or with children. There son, James was my grandfather. Born around 1883. I have a birth certificate of his done in the 1941 from MS stating Jabez as his father, Cornelia H. as his mother of Lodi,MS. James being borne in Montgomery County,MS as Lodi is in that county. OK!! I am reading from the birth certificate and it appears Jabez was married twice. It states as for verification of birth and age," I am a half sister of James Oscar Gray and was 10 years old living in the home at the time of his birth." Signed Mrs Lela Gray Marshall. She lived in Montgomery County, MS at that time. James had already moved to Montgomery, AL by then. It does state that is was also verified by the 1920 census of Montgomery County, MS. I don't think I have access to that census but will try. Thanks!! MM
MM. Have you looked at the 1870 census for Choctaw Co MS? There is a listing for a Jobe Gray who has a daughter named Leler. Could this be the Lela who was the half sister of James O? If the name Jobe was a mispelled Jabe??? 1870 MS Choctaw Co pg 286B. Township 19, Range 7, Line 28 H66/F66 Gray, Jobe 35 [He is indexed as John] Susan 30 Lelar 7/12 All were listed as born in GA. On the same page is a James Gray 43, also b in GA. A Dick Gray, age 27 bGA, is on the page before them, which corresponds to the Richard 17 on the 1860 census in your post. Another Gray, age 45 b GA, is on the page with Dick, but I can't make out his name, but he is indexed as Guss [his age would correspond with Augustus on the 1860 census and the James A 25 on the 1850 census with Catherine]. Others on the Choctaw Co MS 1870 index [HeritageQuest] are: Alice C 10 b MS [listed with Monroe D Nelson and Mary E 30 & family] Frank 50 b SC [has a family] Matha 44 b VA [has a family] Robert 29 b GA [has a family] [Is this Robertson 10 in 1850 with Catherine, and Robert 19 in 1860 with Giles Atkinson and Elizabeth 21(maybe Elizabeth 12 with Catherine in 1850)?] Thomas 50 b MS [has a family] Hope this helps, Melba Clark ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, September 08, 2006 7:02 AM Subject: Re: [ALJEFFER] Request Info Regarding Ancestors Graves > In a message dated 9/7/2006 6:11:12 P.M.
