Linda, I know that the Birmingham Public Library's genealogy department has some older Birmingham City Directories. I don't know that they have one for 1942 or that they would do a lookup for you, but you might try contacting them. It's possible that someone on the list who lives in Birmingham and frequents the Library would do a look up for you.
