Hi Nancy and List, My vote is to leave the reply system "as is." As I understand it, when one hits the "reply all" (as I just did), replies DO go to both the list and to the individual who sent the original post. Perhaps this could be pointed out to new members with their welcoming letter. Also, a reminder that if a subject is of general interest, to make sure the list gets the benefit of that information also. Most people have a pretty good feel of what is appropriate for the list as a whole and what requires an individual reply. Even with the system as it is, there are sometimes replies that are of virtually no benefit to the list as a whole and just someone's offhand comment or "knee-jerk" response to a topic. Many of us are on several lists and even using the "delete" key can be very time consuming. Many list members probably have had the experience with other lists of seeing innumerable "Happy Birthday" or "Good Luck" messages which should properly be sent personally. The messages that comes across as somewhat personal in nature also often tend to lead to controversial opinions being aired with the resulting mini-flame wars -- before the list owner can step in and extinguish them. It has been a pleasure to know that when something comes across the ALJEFFER-L, usually it IS intended for all of us. Thanks to Nancy for being so open to our needs and allowing the membership to express opinions about this. AND for all she does to keep things running so smoothly enabling us to share and learn. Pat
