    3. Does anyone know who is in charge of the East Lake cemetery? Someone told me a Methodist church was in charge of it but I have no idea or which one. I would like to contact someone to find out who is legal owner of my GGG-Grandparents plots, Mahala Ellard Balker and William R Baker. My sister and I would like to replace the broken and missing headstones on thier graves. Any ideas who we would contact for information, or how to go about locating the correct people about this? We do not live in alabama, but plan to visit next spring. Thank you for your help, Kyanne

    3. If a Methodist Church is involved then you might contact the library at Birmingham Southern. They are the repository for Methodist records. Birmingham Southern is located at 900 Arkadelphia Road, Telephone # 205-226-4740. Also someone at the Birmingham Library may be able to help. I just looked in the Jefferson County Cemetery Book and this is their entry about that cemetery EAST LAKE CEMETERY. Located in East Lake section of Birmingham on 78th Street between lst Avenue North and lst Avenue South. Formerly called Ruhama Baptist Church Cemetery. Was established by 1830. There is an East Lake United Methodist Church located at 7753 1st Avenue South, Birmingham 35206. Don't know if they have anything to do with the cemetery but their telephone # is 205-836-3201. Hope this helps, Irma J. Roy That puts a different spin on things. Baptist records are archived at Samford University and their address is: 800 Lakeshore Drive, Birmingham. Telephone # - 205-726-2749. This is Special Collections which I believe houses their Baptist collection.
