(I THINK IT IS COOPER) Family 1 : Charles Woodbury CREEL (s/o) Thomas and Elizabeth Dearman Creel, Jones Co, MS) MARRIAGE: 1837, Lauderdale County, Mississippi **************************************** JERUSHA NICHOLAS 1823 - ABT. 1870 BIRTH: 1823, Warrior, Alabama DEATH: ABT. 1870, Lauderdale County, Mississippi Father: Jacob NICHOLAS Mother: Mary ? (Maybe Cooper) Family 1 : Wesley CREEL (s/o) Thomas and Elizabeth Dearman Creel, Jones Co, MS) MARRIAGE: 1838, Lauderdale County, Mississippi **************************************** Hello, (this is about the Nicholas and Cooper families) John Cooper & sons family - Jacob Nicholas & daughters Lucinda and Jerusha Hi,   Surely hope somebody can help me, if not locating my ancestors, pointing me in right direction as to where to find the information I need:   Here goes:     Lucinda Nicholas (my ggrandmother) was born in AL in 1819 and died in Handsboro, Harrison Cty. MS in 1902. She married my ggrandfather, Charles Woodbury Creel in Lauderdale Cty, MS in 1837. Her sister, Jerusha Nicholas married Charles Woodbury Creel's brother, Wesley Creel. They were daughters of Jacob Nicholas, who I found on Lauderdale Cty, MS 1850 census, he was 65 at that time and showed his birthplace as TN, which would be about 1785. His wife was shown as Mary Nicholas, 67 from NC. Now this is what I have found from an out-of-print book entitled "Anywhere I Wander I Find Facts and Legends about the Creel Families, and I quote:  "CHARLES WOODBURY CREEL b 1812, SC died Scott Co. MS, listed as CHARLES W. CREEL (OF THE THOMAS & ELIZABETH DEARMAN-CREEL LINE) on the 1850 US Census of Jones Co., MS married LUCINDA NICHOLAS b 1820 d Dec 26, 1902 Handsboro, Harrison Co., MS, who had previously married a Mr. Dixon, she the daughter of JACOB NICHOLAS, son of JOHN COOPER, was supposedly a Choctaw Indian Chief who signed the Great Indian Dance Treaty, supposedly at Shubuta, MS. and LUCINDA was a midwife." I have a list of their children if the names are needed to identify these people and will furnish them if necessary.                 Although this out-of-print book says Choctaw Indian Chief, I have been on Choctaw mailing list also and have found nothing, so am trying your list. The question is who was the Indian Chief? It says Jacob Nicholas was son of JOHN COOPER, how many JOHN COOPERS were there? The only thing I have found on JOHN COOPER is that he worked among the Choctaws.               When I found JACOB NICHOLAS and his wife MARY on the 1850 Lauderdale Co., MS census neither was listed as Native American or would they have been listed that way at that time? Also, could it be that JACOB NICHOLAS' mother was NA or maybe her parents?               Any information you might give me will be appreciated. I have been searching diligently but have come up with absolutely nothing. Someone did tell me the name of the treaty was Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek and I have that in my favorites but cannot find a John Cooper or a Nicholas or any name I am familiar with. thanks
