Laura and all, The story ran on the local Fox 6 new station on Friday night . . . I did some quick looking in the Jeff Co Cemetery books but don't think it is in those . . . probably would have better luck with the WPA cemetery surveys at the library. Unfortunately the news story did not give much information - just that they uncovered the cemetery on the site of the new Irondale Middle School . . .and are try to locate family members (descendants) prior to moving the graves. The video they showed was of tombstones in pieces and very pretty overgrown . . . the only surname mentioned was PHILLIPS. I forwarded this scanty information on to the ACPA (Alabama Cemetery Preservation Alliance) rep for Chilton County this morning and asked is he could get the Jefferson County rep/state organization involved . . . to make sure things are handled properly. With more details on the burials I am sure we could determine if the cemetery had been surveyed and track down some descendants.
