    3. "BELOW THE SURFACE" One day last week, so it is said, three boys at Blossburg, named Jesse JACKSON, Ross TURNER, and Chester LYNN, stole from the check office a check amounting to over $100. It is further said that they tried to make use of the check at the store of Mr. TURNER, where they were detected and the matter reported to the office. Later, it is said the mother of Jesse JACKSON, fearing detection, destroyed the check in the fire. No arrests were made so far as could be learned, and it is understood that settlement is pending between the parents of the boys and the company. Miss Maggie DILLHUNTY, who has just closed her second successful term of school at Galloway Mills, will open a summer school at the place in a few weeks. Mr. D. M. DRIVER, the new superintendent at Galloway, is proving a very popular man. He was formerly at Carbon Hill. The infant child of Mr. and Mrs. Pete SANDERSON, of Galloway, died one day this week. "CRUMLEY'S CHAPEL" Crumley's Chapel is our place of worship. Rev. J. T. BLACK, our pastor, discourses to us the first Sunday in each month, and Bros. BAIN and JOHNSON preach for us the second and forth Sundays. We have an Epworth League and Sunday School, both are well attended and interesting. One hundred and seventy are enrolled in Sunday school. Bro. S. MILES is our superintendent and he is a good one too. Bro. VARNON is our model Sunday school secretary. Miss Lillian WHEELER and brother from Collinsville, Ala. have been visiting our community to the delight of their many relatives and friends. " NORTH HIGHLANDS" Mr. James VALLELY has sprouted up again having beaten Will BRADY out of his girl. A party of young folks went down in No. 1 shaft the other day. Among the party were Mr. and Mrs. Charles VALLELY, Will McHNAW and Mary Ann OLAN, Tony McHLES(?), and Miss Rose VALLELY , George McHNAW and Miss Maggie HANNIGAN, Hugh GRADY and Miss Alice SHAFER, Ed GALLIGER, Miss Katie McHNAW, Pat GALLIGER and Miss Gracie HANNIGAN, Will KIMBLE and Miss Jennie DUNLAP. (Note: I believe the McHNAW might the family if MACKINAW as there was a large family of this name living in Pratt City at the time). Mrs. P. DUGAN has been seriously ill and has been confined to her bed for about a week, and hope she will soon recover. "DEATH OF MRS. MINOR" As the forms of Herald closed last Friday night the rumor came that Mrs. J. W. MINOR, who had been in such critical condition for several days was much improved and would recover. Before morning, however, death came to the relief of the sufferer. The funeral services were held at the family residence in Ensley on Tuesday at 12 o'clock by her pastor, REV. J. V. DICKINSON, assisted by Rev. M. M. WOOD, and Rev. B. D. GRAY from Birmingham. The remains were interred at Woodlawn cemetery. The Funeral services were delayed that her brothers, the Messrs. ROBINSON could reach here from Toledo, Ohio. and that a brother of Mr. MINOR, Mr. J. D. MINOR, of Grand Rapids, Michigan might also be in attendance. Mrs. MINOR was one of the best known lades of Jefferson County, , full of good works--one of that noble type of womanhood that is a benediction to meet. ******* Hope this helps someone jabtillery@home.com
