    3. Items from the Pratt City Herald - March 18, 1899 Born Monday to Mr. and Mrs. G. C. NORRIS , a daughter. Pratt City baseball tea will managed this year by Mr. F. O. HARRIS. Mr. James MEAGHER will be the captain. Miss Mary HAMILTON, daughter of REV. H. S. HAMILTON, has been quite sick during the week but is much better at this writing. The little child of Mr. J. L. LITTLE was quite sick early in the week, but is now much improved. Mrs. J. E. HUDNALL left Thursday noon for Emporia, Kansas where she will spend about ten days visiting friends. "Thomas Dots" We regret to learn that Mrs. WEISEL is still quite sick. The many friends of Mr. and Mrs. WEISEL join us in hoping she will soon be fully recovered. Mr. Robert BLAIR and family who have been living at Thomas for tem years past have moved to Pittsburg, Pa. Mr BLAIR having secured a position there. We learn that Miss Mary Adams who has been visiting her brother's family at Thomas has returned to her home in Chattanooga. "Below the Surface" Mr. Tom DUGAN has been preparing to grade a watermelon patch near Prince's Knob. Pat LOGAN, a slate picker at No. 6 (this refers to the location of the mine) while trying to put the rope in a grab, got his finger caught and mashed very badly. Mr. Mike SULLIVAN has completed the rock work which he contracted with the T. C. I. & R. R. Co. to do at Slope No.6. Mr. Steve DALY, who has been working with the Mr. SULLIVAN at No. 6 is out of work, but we think he will go to work in a few days. Mr. James RAMSEY, is sinking an air shaft at No. 6. He will come out at Sandusky. Herman LUTHER is undoubtedly the swiftest man at No. 6. He can do a day's work, go to a minstrel, attend church and call on his girl all in twenty-four hours. The photographer came down Thursday and made the second attempt to get a likeness of a group of No. 6 boys, but as Mike TRAVIS and " Uncle Sam" were in the lot, we doubt if he will be able to develop the negative this time. L. B. HARVILL spoiled the first one. Marvin TAYLOR, the handsome tally boss at No. 6, Miss TRAVIS, check weighman, and "conductor" HARVILL are free, independent and unlimited candidates for matrimony. ***** Hope this helps someone or is just interesting "news" from 1899. jabtillery@home.com
