Cascade Plunge was a nice and very large swimming pool, operated by private owners but open to the public for an admission fee. VERY popular with younger folks on summer Saturdays. Facilities available for picnics, etc. The location was east of the downtown Birmingham business section.... on a corner about 2 or 3 blocks south of the east-west First Avenue corridor. It was a stop on the trolley route from down town out to the old Howard College campus in East Lake. Howard College has become Samford University and now is in a far larger campus "over Red Mountain" on the south side of Birmingham. Until WW II, that type of public swimming facility was popular and there were a number of them around ... some privately owned and operated .... some operated by the city or county.
