    3. I was one of the "idiots" that contributed to the history of Birmingham and looking back at places of interest. My elderly parents and even older aunt really had a good time remembering all the places that were talked about, and I learned where my great grand father (a policeman) worked his second job, at the Hillman Hotel. I would never had known that without the memory jog. I also enjoyed reading about the places that no longer exist. I apologize to those of you who were offended but remember you are only a few out of many. Knowing how people lived and played is an important part of geneology. Nancy, this is to say that you have handled a great site and I wish you well. >From: "Carol Lackey" <[email protected]> >Reply-To: [email protected], [email protected] >To: <[email protected]> >Subject: Re: [ALJEFFER] Message from the list administrator >Date: Sat, 21 Oct 2006 07:50:35 -0400 > >Amen, Alice! > >-----Original Message----- >From: [email protected] >[mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Alice Campbell >Sent: Saturday, October 21, 2006 2:33 AM >To: [email protected] >Subject: Re: [ALJEFFER] Message from the list administrator > > >I joined the ALJeffer list for the specific purpose of finding out about > >the community, the people who lived there, their occupations, all so >that I could place my ancestors into their proper place in their >community. > >For those 'nouveau genealogists' who only want a list of names, dates, >parents, & offspring, perhaps this purpose does not serve them so well. > >But a real genealogist IS looking for just those little things that will > >tie his family and their neighbors together into a recognizable whole. > >So I, for one, encourage the sort of banter that we've been having and >wish there were more of it.
