Just wanted to pass on to all of you a note that we all stop for a moment and pray for the KENNEDY family at the possible passing of JFK Jr. and wife and sister in law... May all their families be blessed. And for others that have recently had loved ones die... may our blessings also be with you! MSH Ps Politics aside...
I checked out a book from our Library, Trussville Through The Years, by Carol & Earl Massey. Very good source for that area. It also gives cemetery lists for Trussville Baptist Cemetery; Trussville Presbyterian Cemetery; and Vann Cemetery in Trussville. Would be happy to help if you have need of a lookup for these areas. Will have book until July 29th. Patricia Guthrie Boger pboger8564@aol.com

Looking for Almon James FORISTER. He died around 1924 in Alabama. Probably Jefferson County, Alabama. He married May Ola SNIDER who was born 24 Dec. 1883 and died 15 Nov. 1972 in Bessemer, Jefferson County, Alabama. Almon and May FORISTER had the following children, Cecil FORISTER, Robert David FORISTER, Viola FORISTER, Fabian FORISTER, and another daughter. These FORISTER's lived in Cafee Junction near McCalla & Bessemer, Alabama I'm told. I'm also told that Almon James FORISTER had a brother named Herbert FORISTER. Any other information on this line of FORISTER's would be greatly appreciated. Phoebe

Hi, I am faily new to this list. My grandparents are both buried at Warrior Cemetery in Wylum, Al. I don't know if I have the spelling correct or not but I do need directions to get there - I'll either be coming from Clinton Ms or New Orleans. Grandparents were Sheridan Andrew Smith and Lelia Audry House - I believe that most of there children were born there in Wylum. Any information about Wylum would be greatly appreaciated - I realize that this List is mostly for genealogy purposes but I have to start there in Wylum because of lack of any other kind of information. I need all the help that I can get. Thanks and Take Care, virginia

Dear Cemetery Researchers, I am writing to give you an update on our work regarding The Historical Atlas of Alabama, Volume II: Cemetery Locations by County. Allow me to first thank everyone who has contributed to the project thus far. I apologize for not being able to personally respond to every submission. We have received hundreds of submissions so far and it would not be humanly possible to respond to each contributor. While our work is not complete, the end for this edition is in sight. Some people have asked if it is too late to submit information. This is an ongoing project and as such we welcome submissions at any time. While your information may not find its way into this edition, it will be included in future editions of the Atlas. Once the Atlas becomes circulated publicly, we fully anticipate new submissions and corrections. We consider this edition to be the beginning, rather than the end, of the cemetery atlas project. We have kept track of snail mail and email addresses and will make you aware of the availability of the completed book. Publication is still several months away. Once again, my thanks. Regards, Craig Remington Director, Cartographic Research Laboratory University of Alabama cartlab@bama.ua.edu

Roughly.... Alabama and Mississippi were part of the Mississippi territory from 1798 till 1817. In 1817 Mississippi became a state and two years later in 1819 the territory of Alabama became a state. There were very few (if any) settlers in Jeff Co until after the last battle of the Creek Wars (abt. 1813-1818) in 1818. In March 1819 the government recorded the sale of the first lot (formerly Indian) of land. The people started showing up in droves!! They settled on much of the land before it was even surveyed. Birmingham is a relatively young town and was 'incorporated' Dec. 19, 1871. Elyton, Jonesboro and a few other small towns were the nucleus of Jefferson Co. until after the Civil War. Jefferson Co was created December 13, 1819 from (I believe) Blount and Tuscaloosa Co. There was no "state" of Mississippi in 1800 (Mississippi entered the Union on Dec. 10, 1817). What you are referring to is the "Mississippi Territory". > I was told that Birmingham, AL was in the state of Mississippi in the year >1800. Do you know if this is true? How could I find out?
