I am researching my g-g-gfather SAMUEL GOODWIN b. 01 May 1785 SC ( maybe Marlboro Dist.) ; d. 14 Feb. 1872 Brightsville, Marlboro CO., SC. He m. 09 Mar. 1809 Drusilla Bright b. 13 Sept 1792 NC; d. 28 Sept. 1866 Brightsville, Marlboro CO., SC. I do not know his parentage or siblings names, but was told that some of the people from that area went to AL and to GA in the early 1800's. I have seen on the census some Goodwin listing they were born in SC. I would appreciate any information of any research that would be possibly connected. I know that John Goodwin , Francis Goodwyn, Britain Goodwyn, James Goodwyn , Jesse Goodwyn, John Goodwyn, Joseph Goodwyn, Robert Goodwyn and Thomas Goodwyn settled in the Pee Dee area in the time period of 1740 - 1767. I am interested in hearing from anyone who has seen or heard of any connection between the Disspain and McGill families in either Alabama and /or SC - On the 1880 Alabama Census for Jefferson co-probably Argo- Duke W. McGill age 10, born in Alabama is enumerated with his "mother" Elizabeth Disspain. Elizabeth Disspain according to information that I have found on the LDS site was from SC born about 1824 and was the wife of James Disspain from Pickens SC. She was also the mother of Benjamin W. Disspain. Elizabeth's husband James Disspain , again, according to information from the LDS site shows Elizabeth a widow between 1865 and 69. Benjamin W. Disspain married Margaret Glynn. Margaret Glynn's people were also from Pickens SC. Now for the McGill question: In 1880 Elizabeth Disspain is enumerated with 3 children. Martha Disspain age 21, born Alabama and O.E. T. Disspain age 16 born Alabama and as I have said before, her youngest as listed is Duke W. McGill age 10. Question: If Elizabeth Disspain is truly his mother why is she still a Disspain and not a McGill? I have come to believe- old gut feeling- that she is an aunt or grandmother, etc. but can find no connection between any of the families except that Margaret Glynn had a grandfather named Duke W. Glynn- Ben Disspain worked for the Southern RR as did Duke W. McGill later in life. Duke W. McGill was born in Argo, Alabama. The only McGills in the area during that time were Clayton McGill and a James C. McGill. Clayton's children on any census that I found him on do not include a Duke and have not been able to locate James C. although he was in the area according to land records at approximately the same time. Sorry for the long message- looking for any clues. Thanks, Peggy in TX
Hello, I am looking for information on parents and relatives of George Pierce and Charlotte McKinney that married in Jefferson Co.,AL on 8/4/1836. All of the other Pierce and McKinney marriages in the 1820's and 1830's are from 2 families. Descendants of George Pierce a son of Hugh Pierce were there and descendants of Moses McKinney from Warren Co.,GA. Researchers of both families have no clue who my Pierce and McKinney are. George Pierce was born 1817-1819 in AL decd. 1853 in Union Co.,TN and Charlotte (Lottie) McKinney was born abt 1819 in AL from their later census. Charlotte McKinney Pierce applied for a deceased son's pension in Union Co.,TN for his civil war service in the late 1870's. In it she does not name her mother but states her mother was married three times. He mother married a George Sharp as one of her husbands because George Pierce and Charlotte McKinney Pierce moved to TN with her step siblings the children of George Sharp. George Sharp was left land in Union Co.,TN from his father. If anyone has any information or leads I would greatly appreciate it. One possible family for my George Pierce is the household of Hannah Pierce on the 1830 census of Jefferson which looks like siblings of deceased parents or a very young widow. 1830 Census: HANNAH JEFFERSON 2102-01001 If anyone has access to the court marriage bonds or records could they please tell me who might have given permission, bond, or was the guardian/parents of George Pierce and Charlotte McKinney on their marriage record in 1836. Sincerely, Lyle LeMasters

I am searching for my greatgrandmother, CAROLINE TYLER (b.1854 in either Ala. or Ga. and died Springville, Ala. 1899) who married JOHN WASHINGTON CURRY in Blount Co. 1879. She and all her relatives have evaded all attempts to be located, so thought I'd see if anyone doing research in Jefferson Co. has any TYLER's that she might be related to. Thanks for ANY help! BG

Can anyone tell me if there is a source I can check for someone who was a medical doctor in Jefferson County in the early 1900s? Thanks. Ellie
I am looking for the ancestors and descendants of William Campbell from TN who moved to Warrior, Jefferson Co., AL about 1848. I believe he is the William Campbell who married Margaret Blackburn in Dandridge, Jefferson, TN on 31 May 1822. I found them last in the 1870 census. In the 1850 census they have the following children: 1. Mary Ann (Polly) born about 1824 in TN ,died aft 1910. Mary Ann has two illegitimate children, William Harrison Campbell (my great grandfather ) born 19 Aug 1848 in TN, and Sarah P. Campbell born about 1864 in Jefferson Co. AL. 2. Patsy (Martha)born about 1835 in TN, married John Thomas 10 Nov 1835 . 3. Tipton born about 1838 in TN, married Mary Roberts on 2 Sep 1856 4. Jane born about 1841 in TN and married Dr. Martin Roberts on 2 Oct 1856 5. Harriet born about 1843 (I think she married a O. Drake of Jefferson Co. , AL, but have no proof.) 6. Elvira or Elvina born about 1845 in TN, and married a Thomas Mott (Motte) on 15 Dec 1869 in Jefferson Co., AL. 7. I also believe that John Blackburn Campbell is their son. (but have no proof) John married Caroline McClanhanon in Meigs Co. TN on 21 Jan 1846. (1) Both families came to AL about the same time. (2) John names his sons William Anderson Campbell , and James Houston Campbell. My great grandfather, William Harrison Campbell also names his sons William Anderson Campbell (1870) and James Houston Campbell (1879). (3) Both families have a lot to do with the Blackburn family of Warrior, AL. (Example, William Harrison Campbell marries Artalissa Holt at H. H. Blackburns home on 17 Feb. 1869.) I would like to hear from the Campbell, Roberts, Mott, Drake, Thomas, and even Blackburn families. (Anyone who can help!) I'm happy to share what little I have. Deon (Russell) Smith Eagle, ID
B.M. Allen was an attorney in Birmingham in 1918. In one piece of correspondence he is referred to as Judge Allen. The Farrells were in charge I think of the Birmingham City Jail. Erle Pettus was a U.S. District Attorney and went on to practice privately. Anyone searching these families or know anything about them? Sharon K.
