    1. [ALJEFFER] Vaughns in Jefferson County
    2. Tina
    3. I'm hoping someone out there can help me. I'm looking for info on the family of my ggrandmother, Gurtie Vaughn. She was born somewhere around 1890, married Marshall Faucett of Blount County and had 3 sons, Hobert (my grandfather) who married Lillian Bessie Cranford, Willard (died early, probably in his teens), and Lloyd who married Marguerite Dawes or Doss. Lloyd and Marguerite had at least 2 sons, Harold and Marion. Gurtie died around 1924. I don't know where but I suspect Jefferson or Blount County. Anyone having a clue to who her parents might have been or any other info about her, PLEASE, contact me. I would be very grateful. Thank You, Tina

    1. [ALJEFFER] Catholic Marriage records
    2. Mulkin
    3. Hi, can anyone tell me where to look for Catholic marriage records for 1898? We have checked at St. Paul downtown, and they don't have it. The marriage we are searching for took place in the NW part of the county, and I'm hoping there are other old records available. The license is at the courthouse but the marriage was never recorded. Help! Any suggestions most welcome. Martha mulkin@midwest.net

    3. Mark, The index is on microfilm. A lot of libraries in AL have a 6 roll set that covers 1908-1959. The rolls are divided into several time periods, example: the first on covers several time segments starting with 1908-1917, then 1918-1919, etc. The LDS has a larger set that covers later years as well. One can order these through local LDS church libraries or at Wallace State College at Hanceville, AL for about $3-4. The LDS also have hundreds of rolls that have the actual certificates on them. One must first find the name in the index and then use the Vol and cert # to locate the proper roll to order for the certificate. The other way is to order the certificate from the AL Dept of Vital Stistics in Montgomery(either by mail or at a county health department). The fee is $12, which is not returned if the certificate is not found. It is a good idea to first locate the name on the index in order to be assured that there is a certificate available. Locating the name on the index gives the Vol and # and the "version" of the name to ensure that it will be found. Hope this helps. 3. Dear Sir I was trying to find information on one of my ancestors in South Carolina and soon after I began doing research in this area, I began receiving E-Mail from you. I don't remember requesting information from you, but I am new to the net, and I may have inadvertantly done so. If so I apologize fot any inconvenience this may have caused you, and I thank you for your diligence in forwarding information my way. However I am not African-American and I'm reasonably sure that no one in my family ever owned slaves. At least there has never been rumor of any. So you can stop sending me E-Mail. Thank-You Charlotte Bernard
