    2. Madison (Matt) Liles was son of William L Liles and Martha Ann Shows/Schaus. Sarah (Sallie) was daughtre of Elizabeth Caroline (Caroline) Carroll and Daniel Highsmith - possibly William Daniel Highsmith. Caroline married James Jefferson Davis sometime after 1863. Matt and Sallie moved around and raised their family all over south Alabama. Have not proved the connection but there is a Daniel Highsmith buried in Confederate Cemetery in Atlanta Ga I have pictures of Matt and Sallie and of Caroline Carroll Highsmith Davis. 1. [ALJEFFER] CENSUS LOOK UP
    2. Hallman
    3. Hello, If there is anyone out there who could do a census look up for me I sure would appreciate it. I am looking for Turner Youngblood. He would show up in the 1850 census as a child. He could possibly even show up in the 1840 or maybe even the 1860 census. I am most interested in finding out about his parents and siblings. I know nothing of him, except that he was my great grandfather, born in Alabama and I believe in this county. He has been a brick wall for me. Thank you in advance for any help. 3. Please post replies to the list because I am searching for info on the Spanish American War also. My great grandmother had a scrapbook with receipts from the United Spanish War Veterans Auxiliary in it and I have no idea who in our family could have served in the war. I'm looking for any clues about all units (black and white) from the Jefferson Co., area. 1. RE: [ALJEFFER] Mid Creek Beat, Wood's Station,
    2. CM
    3. I am not aware of any census districts called Mud Creek or Woods Station in 1870 in Jefferson Co AL -- But in the 1850 Jefferson Co AL census, both "Mud Creek Beat" and "Woods Beat" were used. I have ancestors who lived in both districts, both of them Franklins. When I don't know which area the census district is in, I cross reference with the BLM GLO records. I pick out neighbors and look them up to see where they bought land. Then I find the Township/Range/Section location on a State DOT map for that county. Mud Creek is in the far southwestern part of Jefferson County -- you can find Mud Creek running through that area, close to the Black Warrior River. Look for Oak Grove, Rock Creek, Mud Creek -- My Gggrandfather, a son of the Franklins in Mud Creek area, Greenberry Franklin, is in the Woods Beat census in 1850 -- He purchased land and in 1850 was living in what is now Irondale -- where Montevalo Rd crosses I20 - as best I can tell. Some of the folks visited by the census taker on same day, and listed on same page, also entered land in same area with the gov't. You can get a listing of the post offices for 1851 & 1870 at the "Making of America" site at U of Mich: http://www.umdl.umich.edu/moa/ Carolyn M linka@bellsouth.net http://expert.cc.purdue.edu/~chrism/family -----Original Message----- From: deonrs@micron.net [mailto:deonrs@micron.net] Sent: Monday, October 25, 1999 5:30 PM To: ALJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [ALJEFFER] Mid Creek Beat, Wood's Station, deonrs@micron.net wrote: > Angela Markwalter wrote: > > > Does anyone know where the Mid Creek Beat was during the 1870 Federal > > Census? 2. New to the list. Surnames: JOHN T. NELSON, DOVER, WISE & MADDEN John T. & Sarah NELSON were in DeSoto, Alabama after 1860 and before 1868. John NELSON was enlisted by H. R. McCoy at DeSoto, Alabama on the 6th day of March 1862 to serve for three years. Captain L. Paradises Company "D" of the 34th Regiment. He was known as a big strong man who was well liked by his neighbors. Looking for any other evidence for his presence in DeSoto during this time period. WISE families were probably present too.
