The cemetery in Pratt City could be the Fraternal Cemetery. Burials in Fraternal Cemetery are included in Volume 2, "Cemeteries of Jefferson County". I'll be glad to look up names for you. Rebecca
I am researching the family of Virgil and Mary (Cofield) Mounce and I believe they may have been in Jefferson County in 1900. Is there anyone out there who has an index to the 1900 Jefferson County census and, if so, I would really appreciate knowing if Virgil and Mary were in Jefferson County in 1900. Thanks, Billy Hightower Farmersville, Texas
There is supposed to be a cemetery in Pratt City - a very old Masonic cemetery - that I would like to find out about. My husband said that he went as a child with his father and they did quite a bit of work cleaning up the cemetery - that it was in bad shape then and that it is not in the safest of neighborhoods. I have discovered that I may also have family buried there - I know of a couple of others who might be interested in cleaning up this cemetery and would like to find out for sure where it is - whose permission we would have to get to go and how many others might be interested in such a project any suggestions welcome doris mayer reece branchville alabama

My relatives would drive to Montgomery, Ala. stopping in Prattville to see my Great Grandfather, William Sterlin McVay (b. 1843) 2nd wife, Cattie O Smith, Cattie Merritt, and Catherin. She was born in 1847 in Autauga County, Ala. She married Sterlin on March 23, 1876 at Mrs. Merritt's residence. William Sterlin McVay was born in Mt Hope, Ala. I wish I knew how they met. My line, Durden-McVay-McWilliams. Maybe Merritt. After Sterlin died in 1908, Cattie moved back to Prattville and worked at a "Women's Rest Area". Her sister, Lille M. Smith. Does anyone know of Durden, McVay or McWilliams family? Dorothy Durden

Hi Peggy, I got this response when I asked a similar question. > Just this afternoon there have been some inquiries as to the cemetery book > that has been done by the University of Alabama Geography Dept. Has anyone done any research on Jacob and Elizabeth Nabours who were in Jefferson County, AL in the 1830s/1840s? I'm trying to locate a list of their children if possible, and anything else about them. I'm trying to determine they might be the parents of my Classinda Nabours who married Joseph M. Alexander, as they are living next door to Elizabeth for the 1840 census. I think that Jacob must have died between 1830 and 1840. _IF_ Jacob and Elizabeth were the parents of Classinda, they may have come to AL from SC, as later censuses give her birthplace as SC. I have the following on Jacob and Elizabeth: ---- 1830 census Jefferson Co., AL, p. 164: Nabours, Jacob 2 m 10-15 1 m 40-50 1 f <5 1 f 5-10 2 f 15-20 1 f 30-40 ---- 1840 census, Jefferson Co., AL, p. 205, line 26: Nabours, Elizabeth 1 m 20-30 1 f 5-10 1 f 10-15 1 f 15-20 1 f 40-50 ---- (deed record info?) from _Alabama Records Vol. 18_ (Gandrud), p. 27 "p. 265. Jacob Nabors (x) and his wife Elizabeth Nabors (x) to John M. McMorrough. 15 Nov 1724." (Her 1724 must be a typo?!) I would appreciate hearing anything anyone might have on them. Thanks in advance for any help... Melanie mealex@spindle.net
I do know that Branchville is in St. Clair Co., but I thought maybe some one may have a list of Cemetery's of the area. And if they have a list of cemetery's they may have lists of the people buried there. I am hunting a Joe or a Joseph Gaddis born in 1898 and died around 1910. He also had a Grandfather of the same name I am still hunting. Thanks Peggy Sue O'Shields-Gaddis
Hello from New York: I'm reasearching my father who was born in Jefferson County. He was Allen Bozeman, born in 1912, his mothers name was Stella Bennett, also of Jefferson County, 1892, I'm not sure of my grandfathers name. Any help would be appreciated. Allen

I am looking for information on Bush Cemetery. My aunt, who died as an infant, is buried there. I called the City of Irondale Library to see if they had any information on this cemetery, but they didn't. According to the maps I have, I think it's located off Montevallo Road, just north of Interstate 20. I would like to contact somebody who is in charge of cemetery, or somebody who takes care of it. Or, if anybody has info on this cemetery, or would be willing to look for info, please contact me. Thanks. Bryant Altizer Christiansburg, VA
I am new to the list, and I haven't seen too many messages on this list. I am researching the HOPKINS surname. My grandfather was Berry Bryant Hopkins. He lived much of his early years in Irondale. Both my mother and her sister were born there. I have been looking for information on my great grandfather for almost three years now. His name was L. E. Hopkins. The "E" possibly stood for Elmas. L.E. was married to Emma Ann Lackey. If anybody could help me out with any of this, I would surely appreciate it. Thanks in advance, Bryant Altizer Christiansburg, VA
