The following information was compiled by Newton Jasper Darden: Abram Durden of Bertie County, North Carolina (who had brothers Josiah and Jeremiah or Isiah), had a son , Joseph Durden( 1803-1863) who married Sarah Watson and had 14 children, all born in Gates County, including Harriet Jane(the reporter) who married James Elbert Hobbs. William Watson Durden brother of Mrs. Hobbs, had 10 children, including Elton Tyler Darden of Atlanta, Ga. born March 22, 1868. Elton Tyler Darden reported in 1904 that Cornelius Darden of Bertie County was the Durden ancestor, a Revolutionary soldier, who had a son, William, who served in 1812-14 and left a family in Bertie County, including William, grandson of Cornelius Durden, who married Sarah---------- and Joseph Durden who married Sarah Watson, etc. Information from "The Darden Family History" : Volumes 16 & 17 of Colonial Records of North Carolina show as Revolutionary soldiers, Benjamin, Cornelius, John and Mills Durden. Mrs.Harriet Jane (Durden) Hobbs of Hampton, Va. (b. March 15, 1837) reported in 1904 that the Durdens, of Irish descent, "emigrated from England" Should anyone have any information on any of the names mentioned in the above, please contact me. Thanks, Dorothy Durden .

Hello All! I descend from William and Mary (maiden name unk) Burgess of Prince Georges Co., MD. Their son Elias (my gggg gf) married Sarah Burgess, dau of Edward and Margaret (maiden name unk) Burgess in Pittsylvania Co., VA 1785. She was also born in Prince Georges Co., MD. Elias and Sarah migrated to Franklin Co., GA, ca. 1790 and lived out their lives there. Their grandson, William, son of Benjamin and Elenor (Timms) Burgess, migrated to Clay Co., NC where he joined the Confederate Army in 1861, served in 39th NC Infantry Regt., was captured at Acworth, GA in Oct 1864, and released from Camp Chase, OH military prison in May 1865. Sometime after 1877 the family dispersed from Clay Co. and eventually most ended up in Alabama. William and wife Mary Ann (Sexton) Burgess settled in Adamsville, Jefferson Co., AL. She died there in 1898 and he in 1904 and they are buried there. I descend from their son, William Samuel, born 1859, South Carolina, d. 1903, Indian Territory, in a coal mine explosion. His son, William Turner Burgess, returned to Jefferson Co., AL in 1916 and was active in Coal Mine Safety throughout his life. He was my grandfather. A rollcall is a very good idea, but PLEASE lets strictly follow a couple of basic rules. First and foremost, PLEASE in the subject line list a surname or two, approximate dates and perhaps (for names like Williams) an area. For Instance: Belcher & Tarrant <1818 <Morris It doesn't have to be exactly like this at all, but please briefly identify your people somehow . This is a fairly large list and a roll call can generate a LOT of mail. Please DON'T use "Roll Call" in the subject line. For a county list, you need to Let people know your lines so they can delete the MANY postings that aren't relevant to them. Also, just as Sheila did, please try to keep the postings fairly short. Again use common sense, but two or most three generations is usually enough. After the rool call you can always add more if asked. These postings are primarily just 'teasers' for finding others also working on your lines. Okay now ... if you're ready ... ROLLCALL ....

Am looking for any information regarding my gggrandfather or his family no matter how slight the connection. He is Clayton McGill who according to census records was born in SC and was in the St Clair./ Jefferson Co area by the 1850- he shows up on the militia list for St. Clair Co for the Mexican War. He also got land grants in St. Clair Co and is on the census there in 1860 with a family in Beaver Valley. He also married several times - first to Harriet Pybus of Jefferson Co, then to Elizabeth Disspain ,the widow of James Disspain. The Disspains had come to the Argo area of Jefferson Co around the late 1850s from Pickens Co., SC. The oldest Disspain son, Ben W married Margaret Glenn. Clayton McGill and Elizabeth (maiden name unknown) Disspain had one child, my ggrandfather Duke Wm McGill in 1869. Duke Wm McGill married Annie Youngman in St. Clair Co around the late 1880s. She was the daughter of Peter Youngman of Argo who is buried along with many Disspains at the Argo Presbyterian Church. There is an Elizabeth McGill who is a charter member but do not know if this is my gggrandmother or not since the early records of the church are not available and according to the minister, they know nothing about the early graves in the churchyard. Back to the Disspains for a moment, when Elizabeth Disspain appears on the 1880 census Clayton McGill is not there, not listed or whatever. She has two other Disspain children at home, both born in Alabama - Martha 21 and a son O.E.T. age 15 along with Duke Wm McGill 10. In 1870 Clayton McGill got a land grant in Walker Co but it appears that Elizabeth did not go with him- could be divorce, etc- would love to find out- As I said, this is my big brick wall, would appreciate any information no matter how remote about any of these families. Thanks, Peggy in TX
