    1. RE: [ALJEFFER] Advice on getting a birth certificate
    2. Raymond Simmons
    3. Hi Chris, I am also looking for a birth certificate for my grandfather who was born in Birmingham in 1892. I spent two days in August of this year in Birmingham & Montgomery searching through their archives. Unfortunately, I was not able to find anything on my grandfather. Interestingly enough, no one else has mentioned the Jefferson County Dept of Health. It sounds like a new lead for me and perhaps others. Chris, could you provide their address and phone number. Thanks in advance. Raymond Simmons "My grandfather was born in 1896 in Birmingham and I need to get a certified copy of his birth certificate. I know the regular channels only supply births from 1906 on, but I saw on AlGenWeb that Jefferson County had births back to 1882. I called around and got the Jefferson County Department of Health, Bureau of Health Statistics and Vital Records and I was sent a form (I live in New Orleans)."

Garrison, M.D. I forgot to mention that on my dad's birth certificate, on the section for the father's information, it is written across it "Not Given". That gives the impression that they may not have been married, but I am not sure on that. Is it still there? Where would records for this be? There is no information on the father on the birth certificate, but it lists my grandmother's name as A. Shepherd. Is there a city directory for 1922-1924? I realize that its a long shot but I'm looking to see if I can locate James Everett Shepherd or Shephard or Alfretta Felsher or Alfretta Shepherd there during this time period. I have my grandfather's name from court papers when my dad had his name legally changed. James Shepherd supposedly was dead by about June 1924 when my dad was given to relatives to raise.
