    3. Jacqueline, Because of the large number of submissions, the Heritage of Jefferson County Book Committee is still working on processing the stories. The committee has been meeting twice a week since before the beginning of summer. The topical stories have been given to the printer. The family stories are almost ready to turn in. There are well over 2000 stories that will be included in the book. Due to the large size of the book, after publication, there will be an increase in price. If anyone would like to order a book at pre-publication price, it is now $75.20. The address for orders is: Jefferson County Heritage Committee c/o Loyd Stewart 2517 Mountain Woods Dr. Birmingham, AL 35216 Hope this helps, Melba -----Original Message----- From: Jacqueline Satterfield <satterfieldj@hotmail.com> >To: ALJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com <ALJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com> >Date: Monday, October 23, 2000 5:16 PM >Subject: [ALJEFFER] Heritage book > > >>Does anyone know when the Jefferson County Heritage book will be shipped >>out? 1. [ALJEFFER] Help to find a marriage: Brooks/Morgan 1900
    2. Gwen Brooks
    3. I need help finding my husband's grandparents' marriage. I don't know the exact county of marriage but I do know the general area of the state they lived in so I'm checking several county records. Could someone please check for this marriage record or a census record for 1900 or 1910 for these people? At this point I'm going by the process of elimination--county by county. John Nathaniel Brooks(b. July 27, 1861 and d. March 2, 1913) married Amanda or Della Morgan (b.June 17, 1880 and d. June 28, 1913) for his second marriage probably between 1899 & 1902. His first wife had been a Keener I think-but that's family "legend." He had three children that I know of from the first marriage: Anderson Dee (b.1894) Georgia (b. 1890 maybe married a Payne), Lillie (dob unknown, might have married an Elliott. These children might be still living with John on a census record. John & Della had four children that I know of: Savannah, b. July 21, 1902 and died April 9, 1907. Julius, born July 1, 1905 and died October 22, 1906. John Thomas, b. September 26, 1907 and Wallace Curtis, b. June 28, 1910. >From all this I would believe that John and Della could have married between 1894 & 1902. But if Savannah was the first child I suspect that the marriage was closer to 1900. I would appreciate any help with this. John and Della died within three months of each other when their son Wallace (my husband's father) was 3. Wallace didn't know anything about his parents and couldn't pass information along. Thank you. Sincerely, Gwen Brooks

    1. [ALJEFFER] "Killed amidst the furnaces"
    2. LaVelda Faull
    3. I am hunting for information on a g-g-uncle's daughter and her husband. NETTIE FAULL was born ca 1877 or 1878 and married ca 1900 in Jefferson County, probably Pratt City. In 1904, she was living with her mother, Nancy E. (Rogers) Faull, as her husband was already deceased. In a letter dated 1904, her aunt ANNIE (FAULL) OATES, stated that she had married a miner named _____ in 1900 (she didn't state his name), and that he had been "KILLED AMIDST THE FURNACES" in Pratt City about a year after their marriage (ca 1901). They had one son named LEROY ___ born in 1901. This certainly isn't much information to go on, but I am wondering if there were any mine accidents around this time or if there might be newspapers which would carry this incident. What makes it so difficult is the lack of a time frame (month) within the year 1901. And without a last name (or first name for him), it makes it so much worse...... Any help or suggestions appreciated. Perhaps someone would look up in the marriage index for Nettie Faull? That would at least give me a last name! 3. Angela, By 1883-4 Elyton was probably part of the area covered by the main directory. The part that I copied was just the Gazetteer of Principal Points in Jefferson County. This section was lists from post offices outside of the Birmingham directory area. To find someone in the Elyton area, just look up their name in the directory. Some of the directories have a section covering street addresses with the occupants listed by house numbers. I don't know which ones have this. Birmingham Publice Library has quite a large set of Directories starting sometime in the 1870's. Hope this helps, Melba -----Original Message----- From: Angela Markwalter <cathexis@mindspring.com> To: Melba Clark <melba.clark@gte.net> Date: Saturday, October 14, 2000 12:29 PM Subject: Re: [ALJEFFER] B'ham City directory >Melba--- > >Is there a listing for the Elyton area? > >Angela >
