    3. Hello, I missed your notes first time around. Here is info for Sarah from Jacobs Funeral Home Records: Parker, Sarah C., d. 8-27-1922, age 61, b. AL; Father, Joe Howard, b.p. not stated; Mother, Patsy Goss, b.p. AL, buried Union Baptist Ch, Bessemer, Jefferson Co., AL. This information came from the unpublished work of Fred & Christine Shaw Ward, "Bessemer, Alabama Area Cemeteries", Dec 1990 and I believe it is available in Birmingham Public Library. Cudos to them for their hard work. Bill William C. 3. Oh no Bill, PLEASE, nothing to aplogize for at all! Hopefully someone on the list has access to the census and can help you! The only reason that I mentioned the CD Lookup list is that your email reminded me to mention it. It can be a great help, esp. when you just want one little piece of information, and you want it NOW ;?) I have saved myself a ton of time and money by using these lookups, and the people are SO nice and willing to helP!! Again, its not a 100 % sure solution to a lookup need, but sometimes it can quickly answer a burning question! Helping each other is what this list is for, but its always nice to know other places to try to go for information too. Anyway, good luck. Hopefully someone will have access to the info for you. 3. According to information I have received, the JACOBS FUNERAL HOME records are in the possession of Brown Service Funeral Home, 4th Avenue Bessemer, Alabama. Those records have be extracted by someone but I don't know if they published them. You might try the LDS Family History Center to see if they are on microfilm. There was talk at one time that Brown-Service would donate these records to the Birmingham Library. You might also inquire there about JACOBS records. Irma J. 1. [ALJEFFER] Cemetery books
    2. Chris Caravella
    3. Hi folks. Does anyone have copies of "Cemeteries of Jefferson County, Alabama"? I know they are available from the library but I am only interested in entries for my family surname, Caravella, and I don't want to spend the $30 for both books. Specifically I am looking for information on Vincent, Rosa and Anthony Caravella. Anthony was the son of Vincent and Rosa. I have the book "Italians in the Deep South: Their impact on Birmingham and the American Heritage" and in the back there is a list of death commemerations from St Mark's church. Anthony is listed in 1925, Vincent 1926 and Rosa in 1936. There also is a Raffaele in 1913 but I already got his information from an Oak Hill cemetery list that I found on-line. Of course, I'd be interested in any others. This family was never very large so I don't believe their will be too many entries. Any help would be greatly apreciated. 3. LaVelda, Although I can't speak for those who work at the library there, but I would think if you have the name and date, they would be able to copy it. It wouldn't hurt to contact them and ask. From what I understand, they have an obituary file. I know the two libraries near me would do it from the newspaper microfilm with name and date. 1. [ALJEFFER] Research can be frustrating
    2. Nancy DeVore Williams
    3. The primary reason that I created this mailist was to give us an opportunity to share information about Jefferson Co., AL and to find out if anyone else is working on the same families, churches or geographic areas that we are. I know that we have all experienced how very hard and very frustrating it can be at times when we are looking for a specific piece of information and we can't find it. It is particlularly frustrating for us that very few, if ANY of us, live in Jefferson CO., AL. I know that we all try to appreciate the suggestions that others make on our behalf, even if their answers aren't always exactly what we're looking for. I always appreciate it when someone takes out time from their own research and their own problems to make a suggestion to me, at no gain to themselves. I know we all try to help each other when we can. I belong to many maillists and I am the listowner for almost a dozen and I can honestly say that this group has an unusually high number of some of the friendliest, hardest working and most caring genealogists that I've ever met. Thank you all for being a part of this maillist. Sincerely, AL JEFEER Maillist Owner, Nancy DeVore Williams

    2. Bill Allen
    3. Hi Coleen, Champ LANGFORD was born November 26, 1833. He would have been 20 when he married. Elizabeth was born about 1836 (according to the U. S. census). So she would have been about 17 or 18. Champ's father died the month before he was born. He was raised by his mother, Elizabeth LANGFORD, and Elizabeth's father, Robert REED. Robert died January 16, 1842 (Champ was 8). According to the family bible, Champ's mother died January 24, 1854 (about 2 weeks before his marriage). Champ's Confederate pension application says he served from August 12, 1861 to the Spring of 1865. The doctor's report said: He was shot in the posterior portion of the left leg, the ball ranging downward. A considerable portion of flesh and a part of the fibula were destroyed. (The fibula is in the calf of the leg. His wound would make walking very painful.) The report also said the extent of his disability was almost total. (He must have been living with someone in Arkansas.) But I didn't know where Champ was when he was wounded, what his rank was, Elizabeth's middle name, Elizabeth's father's name (all I had was R. I. and C. P. HAGOOD). Thank you. I'd appreciate any other information you may have about Champ, Elizabeth, their children or Elizabeth's family. Do you need any information I have about Champ, Elizabeth, their children or Champ's parents? (Champ's 2 oldest daughters dies 3 days apart -- 10/18 and 10/21/1864. Do you know how they died? Or what happened to their other children?) Bill Allen <misterbill@pdq.net> "Dale W. 1. [ALJEFFER] Request Obit Lookup
    2. LaVelda Faull
    3. Hi, listers. I would very much appreciate it if someone could look up an obituary for me in Jefferson County. Actually I have four that I would love to have, but I know that is asking quite a lot of someone. The first two are the most important to me right now. They are the following: Elijah L. Faull, died 4 Feb 1946, Jefferson Co, AL. Mrs. Essie A. Faull, died 13 April 1943 Jefferson Co., AL. Mary A. Faull died May 1927 Jefferson Co., AL Hettle (Hettie?Nettie?) Faull died 21 March 1945, Jefferson Co., AL. I think that Essie was the wife of a William Faull who died 20 March 1950 in Mobile, Alabama, but I have not been able to get his obituary or death certificate yet either to prove that he is the right William. I would very much appreciate any info found on the above. Thank you very much. 3. The Ganrud books of Alabama Records has.....Lankford, Champ to Elizabeth Hagood, 4 February 1854 (executed 7th) by G. H. Cole, J. P. at the house of R. J. Hagood, George S. Shotwell, Security. "Please isue licens for Champ Lankford to Elizabeth Jane Haygood to get married. Oblige Yours, " Curtis G. Beason, guardian for Champ Lankford. "I do hereby gave my consent for you to grant a marriage between my daughter Elizabeth and Champ Lankford, Yours, R (obert) J. Hagood." February 4, 1854. G. H. Cole was my g-grandfather, George Hampton Cole, who was a Justice of the Peace at Pinson (formerly Mount Pinson, Hagood's Crossroads before that) in Jefferson Co., AL. From the "Civil War Records of Jefferson Co., AL" by Marilyn Davis Barefield, on page 12, under "Membership, Co. C., 19th Alabama Volunteers, C. S. A." there is a listing of soldiers "Compiled by W. F. Hanby, 41 years after the first Roll Call ( was August 11, 1861) of his Company, and presented to his surviving comrades as a token of his Love and Esteem." Champ Lankford, 3rd Sgt. Wounded near Chattanooga, TN. Served through war. Is roaming out West. I do not have these books, just copies of a few pages. I hope this will be of some assistance.
