Does anyone know if there is still a Funeral Director in Biemingham by the name of S W Woodin? I have a copy of the death certificate for Leonard Augustus Tinsley, he died April 30, 1918 and the S W Woodin Undertakers was the undertaker and it shows that he is buried in Elmwood Cemetery. Could it be possible this funeral home was sold and is still in operation under a different name. I would like very much to find an obituary for Leonard Augustus Tinsley, or any information about other family members buried in Elwood Cemetery. Leona Tinsley Shields Chickamauga,Ga
My great grandfathers name was Hezikiah Clark GORE(b.1879d.1916),in Irondale, AL. He married Mary Keifer EDNEY from Columbus MS. (her parents were Millard EDNEY and Martha Virginia 'Jennie' LAVENDER/LAVINDER) They had several children... Carey Carniff GORE (1904-1993)(married Rose?), Burnham Alvin GORE (who was called 'Petty')(1905-1977), Millard GORE (1902-1903 lived 11 months), Leslie GORE (called'Leck')(1907-1972)(married Myrt, who I believe is still alive, and living with one of their sons, Richard(Dick) in SC.), Clyde Evers GORE (1899-1934), Martha Agnes GORE (1911-1912 lived 15 months), Emory GORE, Willie Mae GORE (1900-1993) married Fred Feilbelman HEYMAN, then after his death she married Walter Lynch FURMAN, who was a phamacist. (I believe Willies birth name was Willie Lillian and she changed the Lillian to Mae.) Willie was my grandmother. Willie and Fred F. HEYMAN had one daughter, MaeBelle HEYMAN,(b. May 28, 1921), who married Billy Samuel ROBINSON. The GOREs I listed were born in Smythe, Irondale, Powdery, Trusville, Birmingham, and looks like a Germenie(?) AL. Most of these people lived and worked in Birmingham, Jefferson Co. AL. all of their lives. Willie worked and retired from a hospital that I think was on the east side of town. (We could see the Vulcan from her house, and she walked to work.) Several of her brothers worked for the Birmingham Newspaper Office. Most of them are buried in Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham. Does anyone recognize any of these names? See if any of these people ring a bell. They were present at MaeBelle HEYMAN's first birthday party, dated May 28, 1922. (When she was born, they were living at: 1023 1/2 N. 24th. St., Birmingham, AL. At her party, they had moved to: 5805 2nd. Hello, In my long quest of Earnest I'm finally down to just this county, I'm seeking anyone who has a family tie to Amon Millard EARNEST b-1854 in Tucaloosa and lived in Jefferson Co. Does anyone know what precincts Pinson, AL would be in the Jefferson county census' for 1910 and 1920? My eyes are crossed from looking at all the film today and unlike the 1900, I can't seem to find Pinson (or Mt. Pinson). Thanks Ron Hudspeth
Lugenia, I've lived in Birmingham most of my 53 years and to the best of my knowledge, Phillip's colors have always been red and white. I even remember a song at one time (maybe a radio jingle) that went: "Phillips High Red Raiders, fight for the Red and White." In 1961-1965, I attended Woodlawn High School. Our colors were gold and white, but some of our athletic uniforms used a gold and green color scheme. I would have remember if Philips had used green and yellow during that time. Dear Researchers: My computer got a virus and I had to delete some infected files and completely re-install Windows 98. In the process, I might have lost some information. If you sent me a link to your Alabama genealogy personal page or any other Alabama URL's, would you check to see if they are on my website and if not, please re-send them to me?
