    1. [ALJEFFER] James M. Moore
    2. Hello, I'm a new subscriber. I'm looking for the parents of James Moore bca1838 AL d1863 MS m1859 in Tishomingo Co MS to Susan C. McCoy daughter of Samuel McCoy and Faithy Rodes. James indicated in the 1860 MS census that he was born in AL. James and Susan had issue: 1) John Samuel b1860 in Iuka MS mca1880 Martha Ann Howard, and 2) James II b1863 who never married. I was wondering if James may be from Jefferson Co AL. If anyone has heard of this family, please respond. Frank Boyd

    2. Thomas Niswonger
    3. As one in charge of printing a county family history book, I can state: 1 Because of the expense, books could not be printed without pre orders. When the cost gets into the many-thousand dollar range, loans are too risky and expensive. 2. Because of most work being done by volunteers, (usually one person or two) Any shift in their schedule (death of family, new job, etc.) throws off the schedule. 3. Pre-orders generally get the book at lower cost than others, sometimes a fairly significant saving. TN

    3. Since a lot of us ordered the Book a year and some over a year ago. How can we make sure that you still have our name on the list? Our checks cleared the bank a year ago. At the time we sent our money in we were under the impression that the books would be here by late 2000 and now you say maybe late summer of 2001, If we were told all of this in the beginning that would have been different , We were lead a different path. At this time I am not sure that I would ever order on a "pre-need or want "again. But Thanks for letting us know, In hopes it is not 2002 that we get the book. 2. Jim & Donna Nix
    3. Kristina, I don't know that Trussville has ever had anything other than a community paper. Today's major newspapers in Birmingham are the Birmingham News and the Birmingham Post Herald. As I remember, the predecessor to the Post Herald was the Age Herald. I'd suggest contacting the Birmingham Public Library's Genealogy Department. I know that they have numerous microfilm records of old Birmingham newspapers, but I don't know how extensive their collection is. If you'll give me the name, I'll look it up for you when I get the chance. I usually make a trip to the library once a week or so. 1. [ALJEFFER] Native American Ancestry Researching:
    2. Vonda Miller
    3. I am Vonda NORWOOD MILLER. My husband Ronald Dennis MILLER is looking for his Native American ancestry connection. His great grandmother by the 1950's was known as Matilda PETTY. We are told that she was born in Jefferson County, Al abt 1881 as Mary Matilda CAPPS who married Jack or Jackson GLAZE. Matilda's daughter Maude Malee GLAZE was born in Jefferson Co., Al abt 1904. (This is Ron's grandmother) The moved to Arkansas (I don't know which county) was told that Matilda lived in Little Rock. Her husband was killed in a coal minning accident abt. 1910. Maude Malee GLAZE moved to Macon Co. Illinois married Clyde MILLER and gave birth to her only child Curtis Cornelius MILLER in 1926 in Macon Co. Illinois. Later Matilda and some of her children ended up in Toledo, Ohio where in the early 1960s Matilda died. Matilda's known chilldren were: William, Albert, Olan (or Olin), Clifford, Clayton, Edith and Maude. Lots of help needed with this line. Is anyone researching these surnames: GLAZE, MILLER, CAPPS, NORWOOD, HALL, PEEBLES, CUSHON, JOHNSON,FINDLEY,PARKER, DAMPIER, POWELL, WARREN, DUBOSE,DAWSON,TOWNSON,CHANDLER, DEAN, ATCHLEY and SMITH. Looking forward to sharing with you. Thank you. Vonda

    3. I recently obtained the death record for an individual who died in Trussville, Jefferson County in about 1929. Now that I finally have the date of death, I can start looking for a newspaper obituary, if one exists. I have a copied list of the "Newspapers in Microfilm;" however, not being from the south, I have no idea which early papers carried locaI or community type of news. I also have access to InterLibrary Loan but it often takes months to obtain films and then I don't know whether the paper will even include death records. Does anyone know whether there were local newspapers that might have published an obituary for an individual who lived and died in Trussville, 1929. Kristina Harris kharris@televar.com

    2. Irma Roy
    3. To the person asking about Bessemer Road, on a current map of the Birmingham area there are three road with the word Bessemer in them. They are: Bessemer Avenue which is located in the Roosevelt City area of Birmingham. It is a street off of Highway 11. Bessemer Cut-Off Road which starts in the city of Bessemer and goes to Hoover. It runs West to East and is Highway 150. The other one is Bessemer Highway which starts in the City of Bessemer, goes North and even though the name changes several times, eventually ends in Birmingham. I suspect this is the old Bessemer Road. It goes through the City of Lipscomb, Brownsville and then turns into Jefferson Avenue. Finally there is the Birmingham Bessemer Super Highway which is Highway 11. Hope this helps. Irma J. Roy
