    3. I use this service all the time and have never been dissatisfied. To be so far away from a source of information and not able to get there easily, its good to have someone that will. Does anyone know what happened at the Birmingham Genealogy Society meeting this past Sept 23rd, the lady was going to speak on "Pitfals of Adoption Research", would like to know if anyone went and what she had to say. I used to do adoption searches and never had any problem. delilah ----- Original Message ----- From: "caroline" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, September 25, 2006 7:22 AM Subject: [ALJEFFER] Death certs | > There is a website about a person who will copy and send uncertified | death | > certificates for $3 at http://alabamadeath.tripod.com/index.htm I have | > not used their service but have heard from some who have been pleased with | > it. | | Melba | | I've also heard good reports about the above. 2. If you find any inaccurate information at hueytown.org or can add to the information that is there, write to David Reed, whose name is at the top of every cemetery page. He will update the cemetery information (maybe not in 10 minutes, but when he was time he absolutely will do it).

    3. what you do at Maxwell - is that Utah, the state, or someplace in Alabama, sorry, kinda of blew my mind, going from Utah to B'ham - anyway, there is supposed to be a set of 3 paintings (Of Eagles) done by Al Carroway hanging someplace at Maxwell, he was commissioned to paint them for the 39th Anniversary of the Air Force, he was a friend of mine and I have a set of the prints - and just this week was the 59th birthday of the Aif Force according to Robins AFB, I would like to know where these painting hang at Maxwell, maybe the museum or the War College - I want to get another set and give them to Robins AFB Museum. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, September 24, 2006 5:07 PM Subject: Re: [ALJEFFER] Using a laptop at the Birmingham library |I live in Utah and travel up to the library about 4 times a year because I work for the AF and go to Maxwell-Gunter quite often and I've never had a problem. 3. I have made copies of death certificates at the LDS library in Birmingham. They keep the AL deaths microfilm permanently. I used the AL Death Index on Ancestry to get the certificate #s and dates and took that information with me - made it much quicker and easier to find the right film! Beth

    3. There is a website about a person who will copy and send uncertified death certificates for $3 at http://alabamadeath.tripod.com/index.htm I have not used their service but have heard from some who have been pleased with it. Another alternative is the LDS libraries. If I understand correctly, they have the microfilm of the AL death certificates. As with other of their microfilm, one can order the film for a small fee to be used at their library. Ancestry.com has the death certificate index in it's database. Hope this helps, Melba ----- Original Message ----- From: "Evelyn" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, September 24, 2006 12:23 PM Subject: [ALJEFFER] Death certificates > As several have mentioned, the cheapest place to get Alabama death > certificates is at Wallace State because you can locate them yourself on > microfilm and print them out for about a quarter each.

    3. Just remember the Jefferson County Sheriffs Dept is on the corner down and across 20th St from the parking lot, also across from them on the other corner is the Birmingham Arts, then across from the sheriff on the same side as the parking deck, is a GREAT place to eat, a little deli/sandwich shop - and go thru the courthouse to the other side and sit in the park, lots of places to eat over there too - carry a whistle in case you need one, lol. And if you want to have a real treat, stay a night in the Tutwiller Hotel, right up on another corner. Always wanted to stay there, also wanted to stay at the Peabody in Memphis, just to see the ducks. I have other things I want to do before my time is up but guess nobody would like to know those. BPL also has a database of miners deaths. Alabama Coal Mine Fatalities, 1898-1938 Alabama Episcopal Church Registers Alabama Inventors Database Obituary Index : Birmingham Area Newspapers Red Mountain Cemetery Interments All these are on-line databases you can search. delilah evans ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, September 23, 2006 9:19 PM Subject: Re: [ALJEFFER] Using a laptop at the Birmingham library | | In a message dated 9/23/2006 2:17:11 PM Central Standard Time, | [email protected] writes: | | The genealogy room is at the main library? 3. As several have mentioned, the cheapest place to get Alabama death certificates is at Wallace State because you can locate them yourself on microfilm and print them out for about a quarter each. However, it is not that convenient for a lot of us to drive to Hanceville just for that purpose. It is also not convenient to go to the Health Department in downtown Birmingham due to traffic and parking. I live in Blount County and go to the Health Department in Oneonta. There is ample parking. It has never taken over 30 minutes to fill out the form, pay the $12, hand the form to the person in that office/department who faxes it to Montgomery and, in most cases, they fax the certified copy right back within 15 to 20 minutes. The more information you can fill out on the form (such as town, county, age, birthplace, etc.) the quicker they can locate it and fax it back. It is true that they say it costs $12 whether they find it or not, but I don't know if that's always the case since all of them we have requested were found. On one occasion they did fax back and request more information on my reason for requesting the form, but that was for a more recent death. I would check with the Health Department that I was closest to and they can request the death certificate regardless of which county the death occurred in. Evelyn Leslie Remlap, AL [email protected]

    2. McDonald's Chapel is in unincorporated area of northwestern Jefferson County - outside of Ensley off of Highway 269, near Minor and Pleasant Grove. The cemetery is directly across from the Methodist Church, is well maintained, and contains many older graves.

Don't know why anyone is concerned about your leaving PG or Bessemer to go downtown.
