Kay, I was going to tell you where Cascade Plunge is/was. But I googled it and found these pictures: http://www.atwalker.com/pcb/club/club11.html All of the high schools on the eastern side of Birmingham still have their class reunions there. That was where we had our proms, dances, etc. when we were in high school. Can anybody help me? My great grandparents, Chester and Araminta Samples Hall, are buried at Oakland Cem. in Ensley. The lady in the office showed us where they are buried..............no marker, grown over, in a deserted section. We were unable to locate them except for "out there somewhere." Anybody have any suggestions about what we need to do to locate the graves? Thank you. I found these 2 men listed as Physicians in the census for Jefferson Co. They were listed right before my gg Grandfather A.W. Thompson, who was listed as a "student of medicine." I am trying to find out if there is any relation to them and A.W. Any help in solving this will be appreciated. K.Elaine Luce

I went to the courthouse in Birmingham and they let me read the index, which was alphabetical and typed. I found my Caldwells. They made copies. Ten minutes and a little money and I had good clean copies. Drew, the nice guy at the courthouse, also was very helpful at making good copies, not sloppy. There is a parking lot across the street from the courthouse, with plenty of parking spaces and a crossing guard to let you cross the street. If you have ever hesitated about pulling marriage licenses because you thought it would be hard, don't hesitate any more. They could not have been more helpful and quick. The post below triggered a question -- Does anyone have a copy of a graduation invitation for Mortimer Jordon High School in 1929? My father graduated there in 1929. I would love a copy of an invitation and/or anthing else pertaining to that graduation or class. Daddy's name was Grady Robbins, but he went to school and graduated as Grady Evans [his step-father's surname]. I asked everyone about your Quinn and we can't get a lead on it. BUT, if you can tell them which houses your mother thinks it might be, they think they can do it by elimination. I drove up and down Pleasant Grove Road with them Saturday and it appeared they knew who lived in just about every house from about 1900 on. So, can you describe where she thinks it might be? -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Thu, 21 Sep 2006 3:32 PM Subject: Re: [ALJEFFER] Best place to go for research? I have never heard of anyone having to pay it. My husband and I didn't when we married. My sister and her husband didn't, My parents didn't. Mother told me that they had to wait for payday to have the money for the license which was only a few dollars. They married in 1935 in Jefferson Co., AL. The Depression was still pretty bad at that time for a lot of people.
